Her mother having died while she was a child, she was brought up in the family of John Allen. He settled on a portion of the original tract purchased by his father, at Allen's Hill, Ausable, N. Y.

Ceres, NY, was born in Cincinnatus, Cortland Co, NY, February 18, 1814, a son of Didymus and Elizabeth (Fish) Benson. He settled in Ceres township, McKean Co, Penn., in 1832, and for a number of years was engaged in lumbering in Ceres township, and in Sharon, Potter county. He has lived on his present farm in Ceres township for the past 25 years. He married June 4, 1836, Henrietta C., daughter of Robert and Mary (Bee) Gilbert, of Ceres, by whom he had the following named children: Statira C. (Mrs. Justus Rice), Gulielma M. (Mrs. F. G. Fuller), Mary (Mrs. G. W. Lewis), John (killed in the battle of Gettysburg), Elizabeth (Mrs. R. R. Bell), Harriet (Mrs. Alvah Hall), Brice B. and Rebecca. Mrs. Benson's maternal grandmother, Mary Law, was born in England and married, for her first husband, Thomas Bee, and for her second husband, John Bell, and with her second husband came to America, about 1800, bringing her five children, Thomas, Mary and John Bee, and William and John Bell, and were among the first settlers of Ceres township. Thomas Bee and his brother John, uncles of Mrs. Benson, and natives of England, were also pioneers of Ceres, John paying for the homestead and caring for his mother and step-father while they lived. Brice B. Benson, son of Potter and Henrietta C. (Gilbert) Benson, was born in Ceres, June 11, 1851, and resides on the homestead with his parents. In 1883, he married Eva, daughter of David and Ida (Holmes) Finch, of Portage, NY, and they have two children: Anna and Glenn.

14. BENJAMIN FISH, (John, Thomas, Preserved, Thomas), was born ca. 1754 and married 1st Debora Broun 4 May 1775 and then m. 2nd Eunice Hammond 17 Aug. 1780, both at Schaghticoke Reformed Church. John Fish and Benjamin Fish were taxed next to each other in Oct. 1779 in Saratoga Precinct, Albany Co., NY and Benjamin was assessed at L15 real property. They were between Eleazer Slocum and Gideon Bowdish. In 1786 Benjamin Fish was taxed on the East Side of the river in Saratoga District between Thomas Lapham and Cornelius Vanderburgh. In 1787 and 1788 he was located in same. Benjamin Fish was in Easton Town in 1790 at 1-1-4 between John Fish and Ephraim Fish. Benjamin and Ephraim Fish had settled by 1789 and John Fish settled in the south part of Easton about the same time.
Benjamin Fish wrote his will 8 April 1820 at Schaghticoke, Rensselaer Co., NY and it was proved 6 June 1820. He left wife Eunice "half the homestead where I now live so long she remains my widow -- to son Andrew Fish half lot of land at Lake George Landing where my son Andrew now lives -- half of said land to my seven daughters, namely: Elizabeth Thomas, Roby Gifford, Susannah Brownell, Lucy Austin, Esther Potter, Hannah Abeel and Bathsheba Fish, -- to my two sons, namely Jonathan Fish and Ephraim Fish a lot in Cincinnatus where my son Jonathan Fish now lives; to my dau Avis Loop $25 from Benjamin Ketcham executor of John Fish's will, to my son Isaac Fish half of my homestead Farm where I now live. I appoint my son Isaac Fish and Benjamin Brownell Jr. executors."
