On hand for the ceremonial ribbon-cutting at the expanded Gary’s Putter Golf and Jiffy Pup were, from left:
- Chamber of Commerce board members
-- Walter Baker and
-- Sandy Kenyon;
- owner Gary Reese;
- employee Lakota Timothy;
- owner Jeanette Reese;
- employee Brandon Reese (grandson of Gary and Jeanette);
- Joe Ayers, Chamber member representing Frosty Hollow Bed & Breakfast;
- and former Gary’s employee and Chamber board president Stan Swank.
Board member Susan Lemons also attended.
Continuing the tradition to a fourth generation (Gary’s parents Henry Jr. and Ruth Mosch Reese were involved, as well) is the current owners’ granddaughter,
- Lindsay Reese (shown).
One of Potter County’s oldest owner-operated businesses has been expanded and renovated, with crowd-pleasing results.
Gary’s Putter Golf and Jiffy Pup on Pa. Rt. 44 in Sweden Valley was launched with faith in the 1960s and continues to operate - and now expand - with that same foundation.
Owners Gary and Jeanette Reese, with support from family members, took a leap of faith that area residents and visitors would appreciate a clean, upbeat, family-oriented entertainment option - let alone the popular food items at the adjacent Jiffy Pup eatery.
“I had this dream of building a mini golf course back when I was a caddy at Coudersport Golf Club in my back yard,” Gary said. “Later, we decided to take a chance and start the business. It’s hard to believe that a half-century has gone by.”
Renovations have been made, including a pond with paddle boat rentals, gazebo, picnic pavilion and an expanded Jiffy Pup. The name is based on the wildly popular corn dogs that the Reeses were selling right from the start and still offer today. A special Jiffy Pup sauce is something that many customers -- well -- relish as a condiment. For many years, the Reeses also manufactured and sold their PA’s Pickles at the business and through retailers.
As for the miniature golf course, it’s the largest in a 100-mile radius, with 19 holes in a western theme spread out over three-quarters of an acre.
Gary’s Putter Golf and Jiffy Pup observed its expansion and renovation by joining the Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce.
