Hi John,
My maiden name was Jackson, and Merrick was my Great-Great Paternal Grandfather. I have a fair amount of the family geneology documented. This is a link to Merrick's page on Family Tree Maker- and you can go back from there. If you have any other questions feel free to send me a message. My cousin Michael Reeves also is a terrific resource for the family geneology. Sandi (Jackson) Engiles

No, I saw them at a fair and thought they were terrific so I took a few pictures to share with friends. The artist has a Facebook page called Twisted Mind Rusty Metal. Happy I could help with the genealogy.

Yeah, and nice to 'friend' another cousin! I'm working on a detailed all-inclusive family tree to 8th cousins or so; I mean, not just to know my ancestries, but also to ID those living relatives, to get a better understanding of who I am, or... something like that. Also interested in the genetic connections within Potter Co, especially descendants of the early settlers & how they relate to mine, like Dingman, Snyder, Brock, Williams, ...

Do you have any of the books by Robert Ray Lyman (link to books on Amazon)-
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=ntt_athr_dp_sr_1?ie=UTF8&field-author=Robert+Ray+Lyman&search-alias=books&text=Robert+Ray+Lyman&sort=relevancerank
I have read the "fun" ones (Forbidden Lands, Strange Events in the Black Forest)- and they have snippets in interesting facts about the early families. I didn't even know the others existed until I did the Google search. I am guessing the Potter County Historical Society probably has copies, and I know they have a lot of great information there and they are always willing to help. Plus- feel free to ask- I will answer anything that I can. I will be rather limited to memory and the internet for a few more months (we just moved and all my research info is packed away)- but I will be happy to answer anything I can.

I answered earlier from my iPhone, but I don't see it here. Merrick was married to my 3rd great aunt, Sally Weimer, so not a direct ancestor. There is a strength of character in that newspaper photo of him.

He was apparently a tough, man with quite the sense of humor. I have some information about him during the Civil war, that I will try to locate and send on if you are interested. It will be a few months, but I will be happy to forward it. Have you seen the information on the Weimer Family
(http://www.bnbhyde.com/weimerweb/WeimerFamilyHistory.pdf )
Lots of interesting information here (much of it from the Lyman book about the history of Roulette.) I love the bits about George being a baker in Napoleon's army (I have also worked as a baker)- and about the family almost being sold into slavery on their way to the U.S. I will try to poke around what I have to see if I can locate anything of interest to you. Oh- and another sibling of Sally also married a Jackson- Merrick's brother William Victor, who had the rickets as a child, and developed a hunchback. After the Civil War- he went out west as a gambler. I have his six gun and holster. So be warned, we have quite a few characters in this part of the family tree. I had to chuckle when I see that you live in Richmond. We just moved to Florida from Stafford Va on Dec 30th- so we were practically neighbors for many years without even knowing it.

His wife Sally Weimer was my 3rd great aunt. I'm not directly descended fr Merrick.
Oops, noticed I hadn't sent that.
Yes, I have most of the Weimer stuff, I remain a little suspicious about the bondage story, it shows up a lot in other trees.
Cool about the fun!
& Yes, as much info as possible, when you can get it.
Adding your info to my tree as we 'speak'!

Miss Jean Masolotte Is Wed Here To Houtzdale Man
Becomes Bride of Abednego P. Mills Jr. in Ceremony Before Altar of Pompons in St. Eulalia Catholic Church Here.
The marriage of Miss Jean Marie Marolotte, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Masolotte Sr., to Abednego Pitman Mills Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Mills, Houtzdale, Pa., was solemnized Saturday.
The ceremony was performed at 10:00 a. m., at St. Eulalia Church by the Rev. F. M. O'Connell. The church was decorated with vases of white gladioli pompons.
Escorted by her father, the bride was attired in a gown of chantilly lace over satin fashioned with tight bodice with Queen Anne collar edged with pearls, long sleevas ending in points over the hands and skirt ending in chapel length train. Her fingertip length veil of imported French illusion edged with chantilly lace, fell from a Juliet cap of lace and satin edged with pearls. She carried a white prayer book topped with a white orchid.
Mrs. Beverly Pfuntner was matron of honor and Miss Elizabeth Mills and Miss Faye Hackett were bridesmaids. They wore gowns of gothic green and empire gold taf feta fashioned with tight bodices and cap sleeves. Short mitts and Juliet caps with tiny veils of nylon tulle completed their outfits. They carried sunburst bouquets of daisy mums in shades of gold. The flower girl, Brenda Kenealy, cousin of the bride, wore a mist green taffeta gown and Queen Anne bonnet tied with nylon tulle.
James Henderson acted as best man. Quentin Masolotte and Forrest Jarrett were ushers. James Mills, cousin of the bridegroom, was ring bearer.
The bride's mother chose a black faille suit with black accessories, coral hat and corsage of pinochio roses. The bridegroom's mother selected a navy blue dress with matching accessories and corsage of roses.
A wedding dinner was served at the Old Hickory Tavern for 60 guests. The table was decorated with vases of white gladioli and pompons.
The couple will reside at Houtzdale.
Mrs. Mills is a graduate of Coudersport High School and attended Rochester Business Institute. Mr. Mills graduated from Houtzdale High School and is employed as engineer with the Pennsylvania Department of Highways.
