(Colvin) Tu bb s, natives of Cortland and Herkimer counties, N.Y., respectively, and p ion eers of Steuben Co., N.Y. The father of Levi was a native of Vermon t. T he father of Electa B. Tubbs was born in Rhode Island, and her moth er in C onnecticut. Christopher J. Tubbs was reared in his native count y, whe re he secured a common school education and learned the carpenter 's trad e. In 1849 he located in Hector, Potter county, where he work ed as a journ eyman for four years. He then returned to Steuben county, N. Y., remaini ng there until August, 1858, when he returned to Ulysses, Pott er Co., Penn ., and worked on a church until April, 1859, when he we nt to Conneautvill e, Crawford Co., Penn., where he worked at his trade un til the last of Nov ember. He next went to Ceres, McKean county, and work ed at his trade unt il October 17, 1861, when he enlisted in Company F, Fi fty-eighth Pennsylva nia Volunteers, and served four years, four months a nd ten days, and was h onorably discharged at Philadelphia February 27, 18 66. He then return ed to Ceres and worked at his trade one year, then remo ved to Annin townsh ip, McKean county, where he lived three years, then ce to Port Allegany, a nd a year later to Roulette, Potter Co., where he s pent seven years. In 18 81 he located at Oswayo, where he now resides, a nd has conducted a furnitu re store since 1884. He was married, July 4, 18 66, to Laura A., daught er of Thomas and Catherine W.H. (Bacon) McDonal d, of Sharon, this count y, and they have two children: Catherine J. and L ena A. Mr. Tubbs is a mem ber of the Methodist Episcopal Church; is a memb er of the Masonic fraterni ty and of the G.A.R., and in politics he is a R epublican.
