Glenn, Hyla and Sherman Canfield are my mother's sister and brothers.
My mom and her younger siblings not yet old enough to attend but she often told me how they would walk to school barefooted, as evidenced by Glenn, from family farm off nearby Pinneo Hill Road. They lived well up the hill at the first sharp bend.
The first time I saw this photo was late 1990's when I had visited mom in Wellsville to take her to the Millport fair. I was looking at old photos on display there and saw this. I believe it was a Mr. and Mrs. Dickenson or Dickerson who oversaw the display, who were kind enough to go through the efforts later get a copy made for us. He recalled the Canfield farm and said until recently (1990's) some folks still referred to that bend as that.
The Rathbun family at bottom of hill had actually owned it for years and so generously during the 60's, 70's let us visit the fields of our ancestors when my parents would stop and ask permission. I can't tell you how grateful I am to them to have had those opportunities to listen to my mom reminisce about living there.

I came across this article in the Potter Enterprise, 21 Dec 1951, p.1. Can anyone put first names to the Shinglehouse roster? Wetzel, I believe, is my uncle Bob Wetzel, alive and kicking in Florida right now. I think 'Perry' is Dave Perry, who may have died in 2016. Can you help me with Maxson, Grace Titus ?
With the Genesee players as well, for that matter. [I've added the individual scoring since my original post.]

Possibly, Robert T Maxson, heavy into baseball before we had basketball, went on to Mansfield, then Masters, taught in Bradford, back to Mansfield (a beast at sports), set up a track program there, died age 45, track complex named for him. Took a look at the Bells Run Maxson's, did not find a match ... Greg Maxson, any ideas? Cheryle Bryant, do any of you brothers fit?
