- Short Biography for Bartholomew Barnes
Bartholomew Barnes was the son of Joseph Barnes 1765 and Huldah Bartholomew.
He married Polly Sara Pierce, probably in Connecticut or Massachusetts. Polly was probably born in Massachusetts, based on census report and the fact that there are many Pierces in Massachusetts. Her parents are presently unknown.
The couple probably moved to Genesee County, New York by 1824, where there first child Olive was born. Then they probably moved to what is now Alden, Erie County, New York by 1828, where they lived the rest of their lives.
Their farm was near the intersection of Genesee Street and Reinhart Road in Erie County west of Buffalo.
They had 11 children and 45 grandchildren.
Children:
1. Olive 1825, married Frank Blaisdell, Daniel Blodgett, and Asahell White. Also had a relationship with Hudson Blodgett the brother of Daniel, who may have helped out after his brother Daniel died. Olive lived in Wyoming and Genesee County, in Alden, Erie County. Buried in Hillside Cemetery, Andover, Allegany County, New York near some of her children. Seven children.
2. Tracy P(erry) 1827, married Mary Prudence Cottrell, the daughter of Solomon Gates Cottrell and Prudence Gardner. Solomon Cottrell and Bartholomew Barnes were close neighbors. The couple lived in Alden, then in nearby Pembroke, Genesee County. In 1871 they moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and later to Rolling, Langlade County, Wisconsin where their son Solomon took a homestead. Five children, 1 adopted.
3. Jedtathon 1830, married Miss Hillard at St Johns Rectory, nothing more known after 1887.
4. Rosswell 1833, married Julia Gardner, after his brother John J, who had married her, died in 1867. See John J for more about Julia. The couple moved from Cherry Creek, Chautaugua County, New York, where she had previously lived and they were married, to Allegany and later Sweden, in Potter County, Pennsylvania, where they lived the rest of their lives. Roswell's younger brother William moved to the same area for some years. Two children.
5. John J 1835, married Julia Gardner. Julia Gardner was the niece of Prudence Gardner Cottrell, the wife of John's father Bartholomew's neighbor Solomon Cottrell. She was the daughter of Christopher Gardner, brother of Prudence. He lived in Cherry Creek, Chautaugua County, New York along with his father Sullivan. John and Julia were married in Erie County, and lived in Alden until 1861, when they moved back to Cherry Creek, and lived their until John's death in 1867. They had one child, Willet S Barnes 1861. After John died, Julia married his brother Rosswell.
6. Horace Seth 1837, married Celestia Viola Cobb, lived in Alden and in Genesee County, buried in Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Corfu, Genesee County, New York. Five children.
7. Robey Jane 1837, married Alvin Jones, lived in Alden, moved to Little Valley, Cattaraugus County New York by 1870, buried in the South Napoli Cemetery in Napoli, Cattaraugus County, New York. Ten children.
8. William H 1840, married Cordelia Dodge, lived in Pembroke, Alabama, and Indian Falls, Genesee County, New York. Moved to Sweden, Potter County, Pennsylvania by 1910 for some years, near his brother Rosswell. Buried in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Corfu, Genesee County, New York, same cemetery as his brother Horace. Twelve children.

- Joseph R. Barnes (1765-1813)
Joseph R. Barnes, son of Joseph and Elizabeth ( ) Barnes, resided in New Hartford, Litchfield County, Connecticut, and married Huldah Bartholomew in New Hartford on September 14, 1794. Huldah was the daughter of Rueben Bartholomew of Harwinton, Litchfield, Connecticut, who had been a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Joseph was a farmer, and like his son Jarius, a carpenter. According to the Barnes Bulletin 2.0 Vol. 3, p. 25, he was a Whig in politics, and enlisted as a private in a New York unit in the War of 1812. Because Joseph died on 6 June 1813 in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada, there is a strong presumption that he was killed in the Battle of Stoney Creek at which British regulars succeeded in repulsing an American invasion force that had captured Fort Erie near present day Niagara-on-the-Lake by means of a surprise nighttime attack on the American encampment at Stoney Creek near present day Hamilton, Ontario. .
Joseph and Huldah's son, Richard Wheaton, born in 1803, married Francis Ann Ballou and was a devout Methodist and farmer in New Hartford. Son Bartholomew born in 1798 married Polly Sara Ernestly Pierce and moved to New York were he farmed. Bartholomew died in Alden, Erie, News York. Son Jarius Harrison Barnes was a carpenter and joiner by occupation and engaged in contract building in Middletown, Connecticut. Jarius was a member of the Congregational Church and a Republican in politics. He resided at Saddle Hill, Middletown where he died. .
