Hello John and thanks for responding to Paul Pettit’s request for contact. I was born and raised in Harrisonburg, Va., and settled in North Carolina after college. I am an active member of the Chapman Y-DNA project, but would love to link into a Whetzel relative who has been Y-DNA tested. I don’t know if we are related or not, but I thought it worth putting a hook in the water just in case we may be linked. My Whetzel line begins with my maternal grandfather who lived near Broadway Virginia. My Whetzel line looks like this (Going Backwards):
Frederick Luther Whetzel 11DEC1882-23May1963 (My Grandfather)
Jessie Newton Whetzel 26JLY1846-21APR1717
Jacob Whetzel 6OCT1800-5MAY 1828
Martin Whetzel, Jr b.1780
Henry Whetzel (perhaps Martin Henry) b.1735, d. before 1794
Martin Whetzel m. 1732, d. 1794
Martin Whetzel b. ~1708 d. 1760 - This Martin “Weissell” immigrated to America aboard the ship Queen Elizabeth on September 16, 1738. He was one of 300 Palatines who landed at Philadelphia. I have a note that on his arrival he was 30, and also that his brother Hendrick Weissell was 38.
Most of this information comes from The Whetzel Family, compiled by Lewis H Yankey of Criders, Virginia in 1991. Mr. Yankey was very involved with numerous family histories and was a well-known historian in Rockingham County. The Whetzel Family book is still available at the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County Historical Society in Dayton, Va.
I do not know if any of this can be related to your line, but as I said it was worth a try. Let me know if any of this makes any sense, or may be correlated to your family line.
Thanks,
Ray Chapman

Do you have anything in particular?
