Record for Jean Jacques BONNETT (62) facts
Jean Jacques Bonnet immigration In 1733, the Jean Jacques Bonnett family started out from Friedrichstal, Germany, looking forward to a prosperous life. There was the father, Jean Jacques, who preferred to be called Jacob and was 31 years old, Marie Desreux Bonnett the mother, also 31 and the four children -Margaret 8, -Susanna 4, -Christina 2, and the -baby John Simon 9 months. [BonE1] There had been another child named John Isaac but he was no longer with them. His loss was part of the reason Marie was willing to leave her home. We cannot imagine what the trip was like for the family. However, when the ship Elizabeth arrived in Philadelphia on the 27th of August 1733 a saddened family of four disembarked. The two middle children, Susanna and Christina, had died en route. Having no choice but to continue, they went on and settled in Paoli, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Five more children were born here -- -Elizabeth, -Mary, -Lewis, -Samuel and -Susannah. Jacob Bonnett is listed for a survey of 400 acres in December of 1737. A land certificate for property in the Monocacy was issued and he received another one on the west bank of Hunting Creek below its fork. Marie died there and was followed by her husband in 1752. They are both buried in the Chester County Cemetery. Their sons Samuel and Lewis then lead the family on to Virginia around 1753/54. cjasper118 added this on 13 Aug 2009 krl60 originally submitted this to Wetzell/Pollock Family Tree on 13 Jul 2009 _______________________________ French or Dutch? JEAN BONNETT TAVERN
(Western Pennsylvania)
Located at the junction of the Old Forbes and Burd Roads (Routes 30 and 31). It was an important land mark for settlers and travelers on the only road connecting Eastern Pennsylvania with the Ohio River and territories
beyond.
October 1780 Jean (John) Bonnett was issued a license allowing that the "Petitioner" lives at the Fork of the roads leading to Fort Pitt and the Glades with everything necessary for keeping Public House.....This location became will known as BONNETTS.
The earliest record of this property is a transfer of title of 690 acres to Hans Ireland, a land speculator, from an agent of the William Penn family. In 1762 it was transferred to Robert Callendar who was an Indian trader, a commissary for troop supplies and later a scout for General George Washington.. This building with it's native stone walls and huge Chestnut beams was built during Callender's ownership.
Jean Bonnett and Dorothy his wife, purchased the property in 1779. This significant Bedford County building was placed on the prestigious National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Child of Samuel Bonnett and Eliza Linger
Sixth Generation
1. Perry Green Bonnett, born 10 October 1819, died 02 February 1820.
Samuel Bonnett married Lucinda Fitzhugh Hooe (written as Lucy Moore) on 5 December 1820 in Lewis Co., Virginia. Lucinda was born 27 July 1800 in Virginia. Her parents are still unknown. Some Bonnett researchers believed Samuel died at a very young age, believe me he did not.
The Fourteen children of Samuel Bonnett and Lucinda Hooe

All of Samuel and Lucinda's children were born in Lewis Co., Virginia (later became West Virginia). In 1847 Samuel and Lucinda moved with their children (all but Martha Jane) to the Silver
Creek Township in Green Co., Ohio. In the fall of 1850 they moved to Marion Co., Iowa and in 1856 to Mahaska Co., Iowa. Samuel died in Mahaska Co. in November that same year. It appears he never had time to plant a crop in his newly purchased farm. Lucinda died in Mahaska Co. on 15 July 1881.
Marshall Fitzhugh Bonnett, his brother David and their brother-in-law Zack Taylor drove an ox team to California in 1848 to dig for gold. When Marshall and David were ready to return to Iowa, Zack Taylor could not be found and was thought to have been killed by Indians.
Marshall Fitzhugh Bonnett married Levina "Vina" Ronk on 26 July 1857 in Mahaska Co., Iowa. Vina, born 1 February 1832 in Putnam Co., Indiana, daughter of Samuel Ronk and Rutha "Ruthie" Myers.

"These Germans included the Devilbiss family which found its way to Monocacy Manor and the family of Hans Martin Wetzel. The latter settled along the German Monocacy Road but at some distance north of the area described here.".
.
p. 207-209:.
.
"Hans Martin Wetzel was another German who settled in the northern area of today's Frederick County. But he reached American shores in 1731, before any of those described above. He was 31 years of age when he arrived in Philadelphia, having been born in Germany about 1700c. He brought with him his wife Maria Barbara, age 33, and three children, Hans Martin, Jr., age 6, Nicholaus, age 4 and Katharine, age 3. (f. 151) They came with a company of 269 Germans under the leadership of Johann Bartholomew Rieger (1707 - 1769), a student at Heidelberg University and an early Reformed pastor. Rieger was born in Ober-Ingelheim, where a numerous family of Wetzels also lived. But no connection has been established to the American immigrant or to the Devilbiss family which also came with this group. The immigrant party reached Philadelphia on September 21, 1731, aboard the ship Brittania of London, having sailed from Rotterdam by way of Cowes, England.
.
Almost immediately Reiger was elected pastor of the Reformed congregations in Philadelphia and Germantown, where he served until 1734. He then moved to Amwell, New Jersey and seems to have worked there until 1739. In that year he accepted a call to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he remained for the succeeding four years, leaving a sizable record of his baptisms and marriages. At the same time, during the eight years from 1731 to 1739 the Wetzels' whereabouts remains unknown. There is no reason to suspect that they continued their association with Rieger. In fact, when Martin Wetzel first appeared in Maryland, he did so on June 17, 1739 as a Lutheran, not a Reformed, baptism witness for Johann Bernhardt Weinmer. Even though for naturalization purposes Johann Bartholomew Rieger signed a certificate that Conrad Kempf and John Rouse where "honest Protestants of the Reformed Heidelberg Catechism," it was a Lutheran communion from Pastor David Candler which preceded Martin Wetzler's own naturalization on October 19, 1743.
.
In 1740 Martin Wetzel signed the petition for the road from John Pyburn's to John Nelson's "for the benefit of our mill and (Anglican) church. Martin Wetzel first had land surveyed in the area that is now Frederick County on November 25, 1741. He called the 100 acres "Mill Place" and located it on the west side of "Little Hunting Creek near the lower end of a small island." The land lay near the German Monocacy Road some two miles north of present day Lewistown. It is possible that this had been Wetzel's home before the day of survey but he assigned the certificate to Handel Barrick who received the patent on October 26, 1742. In 1884 this land was in the possession of George W. Gaver.
.
On May 28, 1743, Daniel Delany assigned the certificate of survey for his "Wine Garden" to Martin Wetzel's neighbor Jacob Bonnett who on the same day reassigned it to Wetzel. Wetzel received the patent. The parcel's beginning point was "close by Wetzel’s Spring branch by the side of a large swamp." It adjoined Michael Reisner's plantation, but was partly absorbed into the later Resurvey which made up "Auburn." In 1743 Wetzel also received the patent for "Bennett's Resolution," which had been surveyed for Daniel Delany on November 11, 1742. This he had enlarged in 1752 to 400 acres, and in 1753 he conveyed it to Daniel Lefever. In March 1748 Martin "Wisell" was listed as one of those Germans being overcharged by the Sheriff in his quitrent collections..
.
Martin Wetzel was a frequent sponsor for Lutheran baptisms of children of his neighbors. In addition to the Weymore child in 1739 cited above, he was also a sponsor between 1745 and 1751 for children of George Honig, Georg Kuntz, Zacharias Barth and Michael Reisner. In 1747 father Martin, Sr., and sons Martin, Jr. and Nicholaus Wetzel, all signed Muhlenberg's articles in the Frederick Lutheran church book. Between 1744 and 1749 the same register records the births and baptisms of four Wetzel children, presumably the children of Martin, Jr. These were Johann Jacob, Georg Michael, John Friedrich, and Maria Catharina Wetezl. Their baptism sponsors included Jacob, Georg Michael and Maria Catharina Brunner. Another daughter, Magdalena Elisabetha Wetzel, was baptized in the Frederick Reformed Church in 1751 with Leonhard Hoffman the sponsor. In 1748 Martin Whetsell and George Saltner jointly purchased lot No. 60 in Fredericktown. In 1756 Martin Wetzel, presumably the younger, appeared on Peter Butler's muster roll at the start of the French and Indian War. According to family records no longer available, Martin Wetzel, Jr., married Elizabeth Bonnett, Nicholas Wetzel married Elizabeth Cromerston and John Wetzel married Mary Bonnett, sister of Elizabeth.[?? -jcw20150107] Other Wetzel children are Catherine and Henry. Further accounts of the exploits of succeeding generations of Wetzels against the Indians in the Ohio Valley may be found in the Draper Papers at the University of Wisconsin. Other descendants remain in the Frederick County area today.".
.
(footnote 151: "Burgert, op cit., 1:396, has noted a namesake, Johann Martin Wetzel, born at Hasselbach east of Sinsheim in the Kraichgau on November 13, 1719, the son of Johann Jacob Wetzel and Anna Ursula Georg. The family emigrated in 1746 and lived in Lancaster County, PA, where Martin Wetzel's sister Susanna married Jacob Oberkirsch. The Frederick (Maryland) Lutheran Church Book records her second marriage to Peter Andrae and her death in Frederick County in 1773 at the age of 44."
