Francis Truman Ayers (1930-2012)
AUSTIN, Pa. - Francis Truman Ayers, of 555 Prouty Road, passed away at his home peacefully with his loving wife at his side Thursday (April 5, 2012).
Born August 22, 1930, at home in the Prouty, he was the son of William Ayers and Myrtle Harvey and also Arthur and Blanche Ayers. On July 14, 1949, he married Arlene J. Robinson who survives.
Mr. Ayers served in the U.S. Navy on a destroyer, the USS K.D. Bailey, from 1948 to 1950. He was a past member of American Legion Potter Post 192.
He had several jobs, working for the Department of Forest and Water, the Damascus Tannery, road construction, and retired as a concrete truck driver for North Penn Concrete. In his later years he worked as a part-time janitor for Adelphia Cable Communications.
He was an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman, and camper. Later in life he loved to write poems and short stories.
In addition to his wife he is survived by
four sons; Edward (Debbie) Ayers of Coudersport,
Ralph Ayers of Eldred,
Dennis (Nancy) Ayers of Shinglehouse and
Kenneth (Susana) Ayers of Austin;
three daughters, Cheryl (Dennis) Furman of Austin,
Gloria (Greg) Frable of Schaefferstown and
Susan (Terry) Plumstead of Mills;
a sister, Virginia French of Owego, N.Y.; and
several nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents
and two grandsons Aaron A. Ayers and
Blake A. Ayers.
Burial will be in Ayers Hill Cemetery will full military honors accorded by members of the Potter County Honor Guard.
