Hi again,
I just realized I gave you the wrong name for the Snook ancestor. (Johan) Mathias Snook and his wife Barbara are the parents of Catherine Snook Anderson. I also looked back at my messages from my Anderson family guru and she confirms that the DNA segment you and my dad share on chromosome 8 is shared by quite a few descendants of Mathias and Barbara Snook. I think you'll find that several people with the last name Kiely have it, too, as well as Roxy Manning and Steve Kensil, who I mentioned in my last message.
Mystery solved, I think....

Hi John,
That's very interesting, because the John Hopkins connection is actually on my mother's side, not my dad Jack's side. Once my mom's DNA finally gets processed, I'll see if there is a hit on that side, too.
I think that what we may be seeing is the Snook DNA, in that case. The other people with the John Wesley Anderson DNA (Roxy Manning and Steve Kensil, for sure) are Snook descendants, too:
Johan(nes) Snook

Catherine Snook, m. Jonathan Anderson

Isaac Anderson, m. Rachel Nelson (there is a private genealogy book about I.A.'s family floating around)

John Wesley Anderson.
We've had some other Snook connections on Ancestry, so it does seem possible and even likely.
What do you think?

Subject: FTDNA match
Hello,
I recently put my dad’s DNA on FTDNA.com--username Jack Remick--and the two of you have a very strong match on chromosome 8 with a group of others we also know to be descended from John Wesley Anderson. JWA was the father of my dad's maternal great-grandmother Charlotte Anderson Malone. He was the son of Isaac Anderson and Rachel Nelson, born in Kentucky in 1822; then the entire family moved to Wayne county, Illinois. I don't see anything on your family tree that connects us, but the DNA match is really clear. Please feel free to look at my dad's family tree if you like. We also have a family tree at Ancestry.com (Remick Weber family tree). I hope we can figure it out!
Thank you,
Elizabeth Remick
