Family ties--Anderson/Harris

Isaac Anderson (1799-1888) was father to John Wesley Anderson (1822-1908) and Stephen A Anderson (1830-1897).

Stephen's daughter was Emma Anderson (b 1873). She was the first wife of Sherman Harris (1868-1961).

John Wesley's son was Lindsey Millis Anderson (1852-1893). His wife was Sarah Frances Chapman (1862-1930).

So Emma and Lindsey were first cousins. When they died, their spouses (Sherman Harris and Sarah Frances Chapman) married.

There is a second connection as well. Sarah Frances Chapman (1862-1930) had several sons from her first marriage, to Lindsey Millis Anderson (1852-1893), including Thomas "Singer" Anderson (1888-1941). He later married Emma Elizabeth Bailey (1893-1972). Emma Bailey's family tree includes the surname Harris: her mother was Gilla Jane Harris (1866-1930), though Gilla Jane's parentage is uncertain. Her mother might have been Carrah Sallie Harris (b. 1843) (father unknown) or her father might have been Carrah's brother, Gilliam Harris (1833-1904) (mother unknown).

Carrah and Gilliam were both children of Sion Harris (b 1809) and Elizabeth Harris (1814). Sion and Elizabeth were first cousins. Elizabeth was the daughter of Gilliam Harris (b 1788) and Eliza Whitney (b 1788), while Sion was the son of Susannah Harris (1793-1865) and Thomas J Harris (1793-1865). Both Gilliam (b 1788) and Susannah were children of yet another Gilliam Harris (wife unknown). As Susannah and her husband (Thomas J Harris) also share a last name, they may have been related in another way, as yet undetermined.

Sherman Harris (1868-1961) is also descended from this earliest Gilliam Harris (dates and wife unknown), through his son Gilliam and Eliza Whitney. Emma Bailey's line goes through their daughter Elizabeth (b 1814) while Sherman's line goes through their son Ransom Harris (1812-1873), who married Camila Kennedy (b 1815). Their son was Gilliam Harris (b 1845) who married Elizabeth Young (b 1845). Their son was William Sherman Harris (1868-1961), in honor of the Civil War general who burned Atlanta, whom Gilliam might have served under during the war.

So, Thomas "Singer" Anderson's wife (Emma Bailey), and his stepfather (Sherman Harris), descend from the same people.
