Manson “Mac” Ancil McClure, 91, of Boise, died on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 1 pm in the Chapel of Cloverdale Funeral Home. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 12-1 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens.
He was born in Portland, Oregon in October of 1924 to Melvin and Olean (Cook) McClure. Manny and the family relocated to Boise by 1932 where he attended and graduated from Franklin School in 1942.
Mac enlisted in the Army Signal Corps and served in the Pacific Theater until his honorable discharge in 1946. A 1948 engineering graduate of Boise Junior College, Manson married Opal Cole in January of that year.
Mac’s career as a radio and television engineer spanned five decades and saw the introduction of television to the Treasure Valley. He played an integral role in the development of this new media, acting as a cameraman of both the first football and basketball games to be televised in Idaho. He later served as Chief Engineer at KBOI Channel 2 from 1966 to 1978. Mac was active in the Boise Valley Broadcasters and retired after 12 years with KAID Channel 4 in 1990.
Manson and Opal were married for 57 years and were the proud parents of Deborah, Lucinda, Gerry and Shawn.
Mac was a resident of the Boise Bench for the majority of his life. From the workshop in the basement of his home, Mac tinkered with TVs and VCRs and amassed a collection of electronics. He could fix or build anything and was known as a congenial host of summer afternoons at the family pool.
Manson is survived by his four children: Debby (Gerry Hill) McClure, Cindy (Jim) Everhart, Gerry McClure and Shawn (Pam) McClure; six grandchildren: Sarah, Dan, Chris, Josh, Jon and Katie; three great-grandchildren: Cole, Emma and Belle; his sister: Corinne Meyers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal, and his sister, Bessie Wittell.
The family wishes to thank Traci Newbern with Bright Star Care for the love and care she gave to dad during the past few years.
