My guess is that Phoebe died in childbirth and he remarried to have someone to take care of the young ones. (Just a guess as I have never found a death record.) I have never believed that John & Mary Bonnett Wetzel were George's parents because his sons all lived in the Marshall County area. However, it is highly possible that George was the son of his brother, Martin Wetzel. From what I understand, Martin stayed to the east. I did my friend's genealogy years ago and she is descended from John & Mary Wetzel. I found out about his brother then. Also the use of the same names, Martin, George, John plays a part in that thought. The Snooks I have on both side of my grandpa Stephens' side. I am pretty sure I found a death record that confirms that George's wife was a Snook. I also have them on the Ashby side via Sole to Youst to Snook. Blessings for a wonderful 4th! I severed the lineage of George Wetzel/Whetsell to Martin, to Capt John Wetzel/Mary Bonnett, for lack of any good evidence, other than anecdotal handed down through generations, that we were related to Lewis, brother of Martin, famous (infamous?) Indian fighters. This is the Jones with whom George was living in the 1850 census, his daughter Mary, neighbor to his son Henry, my grgrgrandfather. That census is really that last good evidence I have in my Wetzel line :O( Even Snook Comes from loose DNA connections. Do you have more here? I'll be going through your tree in more detail, but I'm focusing on an entirely different part of my tree at the moment, Darn!
