ELLEN R. (Mantz) BUTLER(1933 - 2018)
"beloved mother, grandmother, and sister"
Ellen R. Butler, 84, of Port Allegany, passed away at home with her loving family by her side on Monday, May 28, 2018, after a short illness.
Born on Nov. 13, 1933, in Keating Summit, she was a daughter of Vern and Daphne Card Mantz.
She was formerly married to Jesse F. Butler.
Ellen was a graduate of Austin High School. She was employed by the former Pierce Glass Company in Port Allegany, retiring after many years of service.
Ellen was a member of Port Allegany United Methodist Church, a member of the Women of the Moose in Port Allegany, and a member of the Coudersport American Legion Post 192 Ladies Auxiliary. Her greatest love was being with her family and grandchildren. Her special gift in life was making people smile and laugh.
Surviving are
three children,
- Rhonda B. (Erik) Coxon of Snowmass Village, Colo.,
- Scott J. (Raymona) Butler of Leander, TX, and
- Sonja L. (T.J.) Kiser of Port Allegany;
eight grandchildren,
- Darby Butler,
- Jessica Coxon,
- Xavier Kiser,
- Tiarra Kiser,
- Elias Kiser,
- Aleczander Kiser,
- Tristan Kiser, and
- Trey Kiser;
a great-grandson, Lincoln Kiser;
a brother, Ralph "Sye" (Carol) Mantz;
two sisters,
- Virginia Meyers and
- Audrey "Connie" (Ted) Boyer;
and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ellen was predeceased by
a sister and her husband, Alice and Joe Michael; and a
brother-in-law, Gerald Meyers.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Ellen's life from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, at the Veteran's Memorial Home, 4743 Route 155, Port Allegany.
Burial will be in Portage Valley Cemetery, Wrights.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cole Memorial Home Health and Hospice, 102-108 South Main Street, Coudersport, PA 16915 or to Port Area Ambulance Services, 22279 US 6 West, Port Allegany, PA 16743.
Ellen's family has entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.

• Changes in Business Picture Include New Locations, Transfer of Ownership
New equipment is being installed at the Coudersport Laundry, purchased two weeks ago by David Hammond and Donald Berglund. The building is being renovated throughout.
Included in equipment purchased are a shirt machine, spotting board, drying tumbler and boiler. The boiler is in Buffalo awaiting transshipment to Coudersport.
The laundry will re-open on or about Monday, Aug. 18, Mr. Berglund said yesterday.
Announcement of the opening of the Wayside Inn on Port Allegany Road tonight, Aug. 7, was made yesterday by Lawrence Hosley, the proprietor.
Mary's Beer Garden Sold
Paul Ulkins and William Schroeder, new owners of Mary's Beer Garden, yesterday received notice of the liquor license transfer. The business was purchased from Angelo English, their father-in-law.
Both new owners are ex-service men. Mr. Schroeaer served in the Navy and Mr. Ulkins in the Army.
The former has been employed by the State Liquor Control Commission. For six years he has been manager of the Galeton liquor store. Mr. Ulkins has been employed by the Brownhill-Kramer Co. for the last 11 years.
Both resigned their positions on July 25.
Mr. English had owned and operated the tavern for 13 years. Ill health forced his retirement from business.
Notice of the transfer of the liquor license from the former owner, Lyle Mewherter, was received yesterday by Sam Shaneen, owner of the National Hotel.
Opening of the recently-completed taproom at Port O' Call, Ladona, awaits receipt of the liquor license, one of the owners said yesterday.
Will Open Cleaning Establishment
Frank Bruzzi, former Marine, has acquired the Olmsted Building on Water St. The owner will open a dry cleaning establishment shortly. The building is undergoing major repairs.
Louis Tasillo Buys Property
Louis Tasillo has purchased the building on Port Allegany Road containing his restaurant and service station from Angelo English. The consideration is believed to be in "excess of $6,750."
The new owner plans extensive alterations.
