Hi Everybody, I have a mystery to solve and perhaps someone here knows something....
- William Henry Lewis a pioneer of Potter County married Ruth Althea BIERCE. The had a ton of kids who settled Potter County and surrounding counties as well. There is absolutely nothing to be found about Ruth and her antecedants. She is believed to be born in Connecticut. She and William Henry came here first to Upper Lisle, NY before settling in Ulysses. Anyone here know the name BIERCE or any children from this marriage? The tree, below, is my "ghost tree" I made for her as I researched the family Bierce of Lichtfield, CT. Any hints would be great! Thanks! See Less

I speculated her father to be Isaiah Bearse 1752-1805, of Cornwall, Litchfield, CT, with her brother being Chancellor Bearse. Purely speculation on my part.

Nancy Ballew Hi Nancy, yes! That's mine as well. I guess any hints might have to come from Connecticut.

As I was responding to your other post, I looked into my Bearse connection, and came up with it through DNA.

That last name on the list was my great grandfather Walter Don Lewis when he was just a boy! I love that so many of my ancestors are pictured in this photo. Here is an article that talks about the reunion:

Lewisiana or the Lewis Letter
Vol. 1 number 11, November 1887
Lewis Association No. 2 Ulysses, PA
Lewis Reunion
The Lewis Reunion Thursday, August 25th, 1887, called out a large number of people. Owing to the cool weather it was held in Gridley’s Theater. It was one of the most enjoyable occasions within the recollection on any of those who participated. No attempt was made at display or formality, but each seemed intent on making the most of the occasion for social enjoyment. The tables were spread at about 1 P.M., and eighty-seven sat down at once. All joined in singing the “Doxology” before partaking of the refreshments. A few came in a little later, making the entire number present about one hundred. While the tables were being cleared, Messers. John and O. A. Lewis and Wm. Suhr gave some fine instrumental music. Then the whole party grouped themselves north of the Baptist church and Mr. L. R. Bliss, of Coudersport, took a photograph of them.
The following officers were re-elected for ensuing year:
Mrs. M. Lavina Lewis, Pres., of Coudersport, Pa.
John Lewis, Vice Pres. Lewisville, Pa.
Seth Lewis, Esq., Secy., Ulysses, Pa.
Lewis Family association No. 2.
