Ulysses United Methodist Church was the setting for the double-ring ceremony which united Julie Rae Buck and Kurt H. Varney Saturday (June 11, 1977) at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Ronald Strader, pastor, officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Buck, Ulysses, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Varney, Monroeton RD.
Miss Terri Alborn, Sayre, sang "'The Lord's Prayer" and "We Have All The Time In The World"' accompanied by organist Jeff Cartwright, York.
Given in marriage by her parents, the bride chose a white polyester sheerganza gown fashioned with a raised waist, bell skirt and chapel train. It featured a high stand-up collar, illusion neckline and long sheer bouffant sleeves. Venise lace appliques accented the bodice, neckline, sleeves and skirt.
A Juliet cap of Venice lace held her two-tiered fingertip veil which was edged in lace. She carried a cascade of red roses and white carnations tied with ribbon.
Main of honor was Mary Whalen, Elkland, who wore a pastel blue, A-line gown designed with a high neckline, full cape sleeves and accented with lace. She carried one red rose with baby's-breath held together by a ribbon.
Bridesmaids were sisters of the bride,
Mrs. Mary Erway, Bolivar, NY.
Mrs. Nancy Dutter, Campbell, NY;
and sister of the groom
Miss Kyla Varney, Monroeton,
who were dressed identically to the maid of honor.
The mother of the bride chose a hand-made, floor-length, sleeveless floral polyester gown and a corsage of red roses and white carnations. The groom's mother was dressed in a long polyester gown of soft creamcolored crepe with flowing sleeves. Her corsage was of red roses and white carnations.
Doug Ulkins, Coudersport, was best man and ushers were: Doug Vehnen, Newton, Paul Scovel, Harvey's Lake and Robert Lenkowski, Kingston.
A buffet luncheon reception was held after the cermony with 97 people attending. The wedding cake was made by Edna Perkins. Serving were Melanie Morley and Mrs. Sheryl Young. Receptionist was Shelia Jones.
For traveling on a wedding trip to Hershey, the bride chose a traveling ensemble consisting of a brown pantsuit. This was accented with a red rose and white carnation corsage.
The couple plan to live at West Grove Street, Elmira, NY.

Raymond E. BUCK, 91, of Ulysses, PA, died Monday, July 18, 2022 in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.
Born May 7, 1931, in Coudersport, he was the son of Lawrence E. and Mabel Evans Buck. On July 19, 1950, in Genesee, he married the former Sylvia Peangatelli, who survives. Raymond and his wife owned and operated a dairy farm in Ulysses for many years. He attended the Galeton First Baptist Church and served on the Ulysses Cemetery Board of Trustees.
Surviving besides his wife, Sylvia, are:
three daughters,
Mary (Terry) Erway of Wellsboro,
Nancy (George) Deitter of Clifton Springs, NY, and
Julie (Kurt) Varney of New London, NC;
seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by six sisters,
Lois Wilson,
Gladys Angood,
Louise Miller,
Dorothy Erway,
Grace Kear, and
Jean Howe; and
two brothers,
Roger L. Buck and
Robert A. Buck.
A private graveside service will be held in Ulysses Cemetery. Rev. Richard Tintle will officiate.
