at least 8 ladies have clothes pins on their blouses and 3 fellas don't have to sing "If I had a hammer", and 1 peavey. Like the fella who brought his own portable chair. One pair of glasses.

Excellent observation. I would have totally missed the clothespins ???? My Dad said my grandmother worked there and I always study these pictures. She’s not in this one.

Brenda Kenealy Williams Looking at the original was thinking she had auburn hair. On Mac Photos this came out about four times larger, not here. In the larger photo green eyes can be seen. Usually on these color apps the eyes turn brown most of the time.

I used my heritage free trial to try to colorize the picture above. My memory of her of course she had totally white hair and blue eyes. Now I wonder if they were green. All the photos are black and white or sepia tone. You know she also worked as a bookkeeper at her brother , John M Clark’s (father of Lucille Clark) grocery store on North Main. They have posted pictures of that storefront too and I always study them closely too. · Reply · Share · 2w · Edited

Richard Neefe
Jeff Carts as others have posted here it was on the Othmer lot. Some time ago (maybe a year to two) there was much conversation and a lot of posts about the factory. Perhaps an archives can be accessed? Have not seen you in a long time, hope ya'll are doing well.

Yes it was located at the end of Ross Street at Othmers. Plus Mr Curran’s home was the office I believe.

were there railroad tracks near Ross??? I was young when I left and can't remember where all the tracks were

Larry Herbstritt
The tram track ran in front of my house (train station) in Sweden Valley, next to the bridge over Mill Creek. A giant saw mill sat where Gary's Putt Putt Golf now sits. The lumber train ran across the road (route 44) parallel to Mill Creek, and continued past the Ice Mine, westward past where Fezz's Diner now sits, along the hill side through Ladona, and along the lower hillside next to the clothespin factory. The tram track is still on the hillside above the current "Othmer House". The clothespin factory was later owned by Hugh Howard Steele, who built the house locally known as "The Lincoln House" currently the home of Eric and Jenna Gurney. Old clothespins were found in their house during renovations.

We on Ross Street used to hike on those old tracks many a summer day????
Reply1y
Larry Herbstritt
We used to hike on a stretch that ran along the hillside above the pond at Gary's miniature golf. The old tram track took us to the Coudersport Golf Club, near one of the tee offs on the side of the hill. It was the tee off where they had an ice cooler filled with beer. Some of the boys I was with (not me!) slipped out from the cover of the pines and came back with a bottle they consumed in the shadows of the pines. ????

We ended near the swimming pool. Funny how we spent endless hours in those woods. Nice there were refreshments on yours????

Wouldn't it be great if someday the old railroad grade could be converted into a rails-to-trails?
Reply1y
Richard Neefe
William Shear Often fantasied if the track from Coudy to Ulysses remained with a scenic Railroad, beauty and the right length. The ride to Ulysses in the evening is one of our favorites, made better with the clickity-clack.

Curt Weinhold I haven't walked/run the little section from the swimming pool to the county home in a few years. It would be a lovely stroll if it were graded, drainage installed, and given a good surface (crushed stone perhaps). I never knew where to pick it up again after the crossing of 872 so never walked that section. Years ago with Mom I think we walked a short piece in North Coudersport.

William Shear
I should add that we here in Farmville VA are smack in the middle of a 32-mile state park operated rails to trails called the High Bridge Trail--it runs right through the downtown plaza and hosts up to 300,000 visits per year! Wouldn't that be nice for Coudy? Pine Creek Trail also seems to be thriving.
