This photo shows my Great Uncle George Washington Mitchell Jr. (1881-1934). He was one of three George Washington Mitchells in Potter Co. His father (1844-1915) was a Civil War veteran. The third GWM (b1832) is unrelated, as far as I can tell.

I am living in Texas and not sure about the names of small towns in Potter County. I do know that my mother Jean Russell Stives and several other Russell family members are in this picture. I thought the school was in Homer, Pennsylvania. Thank you for posting all of the wonderful pictures.

Not Odin. This school was in Inez. And yes Sandy, it’s in Homer Twp.
Love this picture of my dad, Junior Russell and so many of his Russell cousins. Also lots of neighborhood friends.

I have a picture of the Inez School in about 1934. My mother, Jean Russell, is one of the 7 Russell related children in the picture. How big was Inez? I live in Texas and a map doesn't give me very much information. My mother died in 1984.

Sandy, I don't know the breakout for Inez itself, but looking at the Ancestry.com US Census 1900 images I found that Homer Township had 52 households enumerated, total of about 210 individuals. 1940 has 41 households, about 170 individuals. Have you looked at the satellite view of google maps for a current view?

I think George Mitchell in the 1985 photo is my grand uncle George Washington Mitchell Jr. b. 1881. He would have been 14 in 1985, and the family was living on a farm in Sweden Valley near the Ice Mine. The only other photo I have is a fuzzy image cropped from a family group photo taken about 1893. (As far as I know, Jesse Mitchell is not related to George.)

I don't remember Arch wearing those glasses, without temples, in his older years. I wonder why that trend isn't popular today?… |
