Hello,
I am so sorry that this reponse was so delayed.I never got an email saying that a response was posted and I just discovered this response today.
Below you will find a document that was sent to me by the Canisteo, NY Historical Society. This is the town where the "swale" is located in Steuben, NY.
I just sent you an email (I think).I would love to hear any additional information you might have on Charles son Joshua Jones.I want to confirm he had a son named Simeon Jones.I am looking for the Simeon Phineas Jones who is my great great great grandfather.I am starting to wonder if my Simeon was the son of Charles or the Son of Charles' son Joshua as I originally thought.Any information you might have would be great.
Thanks for your help!

Simeon Jones
The following information is taken from Stacy Jackson’s a history of Cameron. It was published as a series of newspaper articles in the 1920’s. You will note that some of the information differs from what you have.

Joshua J. Jones, who was of Welsh descent, settled at an early period on the Swale road near the Canisteo town line on the farm now owned by Walter Loghry. He married Betsy and to them were born the following children:

Mahilla (Matthew Kent, Daniel Brownell),
Betsy (Robert Pye),
Luther P. (Nancy J. Roff, Joshua (Matilda Brownell) and
Simeon (Abigail Jones (132)).
Joshua died Sept. 25, 1833, aged 54 years and nine months, Betsy his wife, died May 15, 1850, aged 68 years.
Both are interred in the cemetery on the Peter H. Drake farm on the Swale.
Simeon Jones (134-A) brother of the Joshua J.,was born in Vermont in 1807. He married here to Abigail Jones, daughter of Isaac & Sarah Jones (133). She died Jan. 1, 1842, and burial was in the Swale Church cemetery. They had no children.
He married second, Adeline Cressy, daughter of Joseph & Betsy Cressy (67), said to have been born at Marblehead, Mass. They resided for some time on the Swale, when they removed to the vicinity of Hornell. To Simeon and Adeline Jones were born: Abigail, Joshua (Jackson), Mahilia (Daniel Brownell (37)), Levi (Mary Jane Bailey), Leroy (Natalia Hackett), Ira (Ida Carrier) and Carrie (Robert Coe).
Simeon Jones was killed by the cars (Erie R.R.) in Almond in 1876. Abigail, his wife, died in 1879 at the age of 63 years. Burial of both was in the Swale Church burying ground.
Charles Jones (134-B) said to have been a native of Wales, came to America prior to the Revolution, accompanied by two brothers, Samuel and William, and settled in Rhode Island.Chas. married at providence, R.I., Betsy Joy, whose parents were natives of England. They removed to near Barre, Vt., where they resided for many years, when they removed ot DeRuyter, Madison county, N.Y. Charles is said to have served for seven years in the Continental Army during the Revolution, and was an officer in the 2nd Vermont Regiment. He died at DeRuyter at the age of 85 years, and his wife died there at the age of 104 years. To Charles & Betsy Jones were born 14 children, seven sons and seven daughters, the names of the following now being known: Joshua J. (134), Simeon (134-A) [was Simeon his brother or son??], Mary Leafy (Edmund Hart (106-A), Dr. Squire (of Cortland, N.Y.), Walter, Charles, Warren, Epriam (killed near Quebec in the War of 1812).
Joshua Jones, son of Joshua (134) is listed under Brownell records as marrying Matilda Brownell, not Mahalia. He killed her and he was hanged at Coudersport, Pa., for this crime.
