Hi Jen!
I just returned from a trip in Kenya, had sporadic wifi access, so I was thrilled to see your note this morning. You and I do not show a relationship, but you do connect with a relative, MW, whose parentage I have been researching intensely for the past several months. The link lies in the Flowers branch, it appears.
To complicate things further, for me, most of the DNA connections to MW fall through Margaret Dingman, my 4th great aunt, so I also show as a DNA link, but more distant than MW.
Not so in this case, apparently, since no DNA link shows between us, jenjenkins223 - wetzupdoc1 , as already noted. That itself should be a clue, nicht?
Thank you for writing. I've been looking at your posted tree and will continue to explore. You should be able to see mine. Let me know if you can't, or if you see any issues.
Thank you so much for writing!

OK, note is obviously lost.
I just returned from a trip in Kenya and was thrilled to see your note. It is not with me that there is a DNA connection but rather with a mysterious link to a relative, whose ancestry I've been intensely researching for several months. Your Flower line seems to offer another hint.
To complicate things further, especially since you and I do not seem to be related, the 'mystery' connection to my relative is also related through a line of Dingmans, in my direct ancestry(!)
At any rate, I've been perusing your posted tree and I assume you can access mine. Let me know if not, or if you have any questions or issues, and I'll be happy to resolve.
So glad your wrote,
john wetzel

Hi! Thanks so much for responding! I
Hope you had an amazing trip!! All three of your notes just popped up lol. Go figure....I’ve had the same thing happen to me before.
So I’m confused...your dna doesn’t show us as related? Mine has you as one of my top matches with a second cousin prediction. How odd is that?? Why would it say we link on one account but not the other? I actually can not see your tree at all because it’s listed as private. Can you invite me to see your tree? I’d love to see if we can find any connections. I’m always up for a good mystery!! Thanks so much :)
08:18 PM
Ok ignore half of that. My main page says we are second cousins. When I click on your name and info I now see where it talks about the link to mw. That’s so misleading!!! I’m bummed we are cousins because you seem so nice already but maybe the hint will still help us both out.

I'm trying to figure out why James S. Flowers is called Timothy James Flowers in familysearch. Do you know anything more about him?

I’ve been looking at this all night. How strange! It’s listed as Timothy James on find a grave as well. I have a death certificate that clearly says James s on it. However, I don’t have much else on him except his parents name. If you do a search on the name Timothy James, I’ve found three different census 1860, 1870, and 1880 that list a Timothy J, James t or just Timothy all with variations of spellings of what appear to be his parents names. For example Ester is Hester and lc is Lemuel c. Dates are all accurate. It looks like our person in question also had an uncle named James. So I’m wondering if the middle initial s we have saved is incorrect and his names is James Timothy but he went by Timothy. There are some relatives with the last name of valentine who are on ancestry. This man should be their grandfather or great grandfather. He has photos posted that he’s scanned in last year. Maybe he would know more accurately? I figured a quick message won’t hurt :)
What do you think? Have you found anything else out? Any other thoughts?
Jen

Hello again! How are you? I took a little break but I've been pretty obsessed with ancestry stuff lately. I'm finally starting to learn a little here lol. So I'm still confused about this MW person. I am related to MW, you are related to MW but we are not related. So we are from two different sides of MW's family. But who is MW? Do you still think he/she is the flowers line for me?
I matched with a father daughter with the last name fleetwood. They have several flowers in their line about six generations back but we can't find the connection yet. It's a strong second cousin match though. It gets so confusing!!
I'm working to help a second cousin who was adopted find his biological family. Without dna tests yet I'm trying to rule any of my 4 lines out. He does not match to MW so if you are fairly certain we are connected on the flowers line then I can be confident he is NOT of the flowers line.
Any insight you can give would help a ton!! Hope your searching is going well. Talk to you soon :)

Hi, Jen! Sorry I did not get back to you sooner.
MW is my half-brother, whose bio-paternal lineage I am desperately trying to solve. It appears to be through a David Perry, whose lineage goes back through Timothy James & Julia Etta Davis Flowers, your grgrgrandparents, as I have it. 'Flowers' also shows up in some middle names, harkening back to this Flowers line, I believe.
That we are not related, you and I, but we both are to MW (Mike) probably means that Flowers, or at least your Jenkins line, branches off in a direction not common to you and me. To explain a little- Further complicating my relationship to Mike is that his bio-paternal lineage is also shared by my/our maternal line. So a 2nd-3rd cousin to Mike might be my 5th-8th cousin(!) His bio-father apparently shares my 4th grgrandparents, John & Hannah TURNER DINGMAN, his branch going through my 4th great aunt, Margaret Dingman, who married Orange Woodruff Strong. [I am descended through Margaret's brother, Henry DINGMAN, married Amy Elmina BROCK.]
So I think that much of the puzzle is pretty clear, but my quest for Mike's father is still unresolved :O(

Hi! I sent a long message but not sure if it went through....
10:27 PM
Holy cow that does make it complicated!!! I’ll try to give some info that may or may not help but I’ll sure try!! So Flowers is from my dad father’s side of the family so that rules out his moms side. His dads name is Kenneth Jenkins and pretty much all of his family is from the Pendleton, Anderson, Madison county area in Indiana up to John Jenkins who is from Ohio somewhere.
Mw and I both match to the name chittester. There are three of them...William chittester as my second cousin match, Steve as my third cousin match and Mara g daffron chittester as my 4th cousin. Oddly enough William and Steve match mike but Mara doesn’t. Can’t figure that one out.
Where are you from? Where was mike born? And where was your mother born? I’ll try to look into this some for you. I love a good mystery.

Mike was born and raised in Coudersport, PA, where dad and one brother still live, same house we grew up in.
Mom was born and raised in Allegany, NY, went to college for one year at Fredonia State, 1948.
Chiester family in Coudersport, My contemporaries but the DNA does not seem to come from that family.

Hi! How’s the search going for your half brother mikes father? I’ve recently seen some new matches between him and me that may be helpful to you. Sorry it’s gonna be long but hopefully I can make it all make sense in writing.
So I recently matched to tommy Johnson and harry Yale sr. All three of us match to mike. Tommy Johnson’s mother Tammy is a fornsworth (who I believe we all four match to am unknown fornsworth on dna match). His mothers (Tammy) father married a Bertha chittester. Berthas sister is Beatrice chittester who married Howard Yale who are Harry’s parents. So with that I’ve found the links between chittesters, Yale, farnsworth and tommy Johnson. However I have no idea where I fit in.
Also I’ve recently come into contact with my dads uncles descendants. My dna does not match any of them and we are close enough relatives that it’s not possible to be related and not match at all. First cousins 1x removed and a second cousin both did the test. There are other jenkins lines that they match and I do not. My jenkins line is the one that has a branch into flowers which I know you have in mikes tree if I remember correctly.
So I suspect that possibly my paternal grandfather (Kenneth Jenkins) or great grandfather (Edward Jenkins who married Ada flowers) are not biological. My theory is that Ada may be Kenneth’s mother but Edward is not the father or Kenneth. Adoption with neither parent being biological is possible but I will say Kenneth and his brother Roland (whose line I do not match) look like brothers for sure. Given all the flowers connections you have plus the dna matches between mike. Me, tommy, chittesters and harry I’m wondering how this all fits in for all of us.
So let’s say my theory is correct...could it be possible that this mystery father who may have had a child with Ada flowers be the link we both need? There’s your flowers branch and I’m thinking it has to connect to the chittesters, fornsworth, Yale, Johnson dna matches. And to top it off, they are from Pennsylvania which I recall is where mike was born correct?? Some moved to Indiana in the 60’s which is where I’m from as well as my jenkins line.
It all adds up in theory so I’m super excited but hesitant to get my hopes up because it’s so complex as you know digging through this mess. I’d love to see if we can link any of this new line to where you said your maternal line and mikes paternal line meet. Dingman I believe you said. Harry is in his 70s and seems to have a great memory for his line so he may really be able to help us figure out if we are on to something.
I can’t wait to talk to you! Feel free to text me if you want. My number is 317-432-8587. I’d LOVE to chat with you if you think there is any merit behind these wild theories of mine lol.
Hope all is well!

Hey how’s it going? Any luck on your brother’s paternity search? I have a theory that might help. So I’m pretty positive oran w chittester had a child with my great grandmother Clara ada flowers. Given all the dna matches your brother and I have in common (Harry Yale, Maria Doran (farnsworth line), tommy johnson (his mother is Tammy farnsworth) and many others), I THINK your brother and I may share Oran as a grandfather. He would be my great grandfather. I believe him and Clara had my grandfather Kenneth Jenkins. I have dna matches with the flowers descendants side but not to any of the Jenkins lines that I should match to. I talked to Harry Yale tonight on the phone and he said oran was definitely a ladies man and had at least one child that he knew of with another woman besides his wife. Her name was Dorothy but he can’t remember the last name (I’m guessing she took her mother’s name). I’m going to try to call a few people tomorrow to see what they can tell me about oran. I’ve spoken with like 6 or 7 of those dna matches and they are all extremely friendly and willing to help. Chuck farnsworth reached out to me yesterday and said he thought he remembered his grandmother talking about a Jenkins family a lot. I can’t 100% prove it but I really think I’m on to something. My dad (Dennis Jenkins-the son of Kenneth Jenkins) has agreed to do the dna test so that should help confirm things. Or tell me I’m crazy lol. Hope this makes sense and can help you in some way.

Hi! Not much progress on my end as to the oran farmsworth theory. I did solve a huge mystery on my moms side though and now have a “New” aunt.
My dads dna test results will be ready in the next two weeks so im hoping maybe that can help confirm or disprove some theories. Maybe it will help you too. Your brother should match him so look for Dennis Jenkins.
I keep feeling like it all goes back to farnsworth and flowers but its so frustrating as you well know!! I think im close with oran being the link but not close enough to say im confident.
Fingers crossed my dads dna helps!! If i can help in any way let me know.

Hi. Well i just got the shock of a lifetime. Apparently my dads dna doesnt match mine. My dad has no idea and for now i plan to keep it that way.
So that means i have no relation to flowers. Only farnsworth and chittester. My grandparents should be russel fsrnsworth and bertha mae chittester. After talking with several new family members they all agree that ronald farnsworth sr is most likely my biological father. Even his children agree. His son has agreed to do the dna test. So i guess i wait now. Ive been lied to for 40 years so whats another 6-8 weeks?
As for your brother if he matches me as a cousin thrn his father is most liky a sibling of my bio father. With that said there is one sibling named donald farnsworth who has at keast 24 kids that they know of. Where did you say your brother was born?

Yes, Jen, sorry. I was catching up on my ancestry mail on the plane two nights ago to Germany; I'm in Hamburg, for my Goddaughter's wedding this afternoon.
I read your earlier note with fascination and couldn't wait to respond (except for another day, sorry again), and now to your follow-up.
Mike was born 26 April 1952 in Coudersport, Potter County, PA, so I figure he was conceived about 20 July 1951.
Mike's closest match in ancestryDNA is:
D.P., Managed by Faith Perry 1st-2nd Cousin Shared DNA: 837 cM across 25 segments
Mike's 1st-2nd cousin matches in ancestryDNA are:
Shared DNA:
Mark Wetzel (my son) 1,271 cM across 57 segments
George A Wetzel (my son) 992 cM across 39 segments
Carolyn Swift (my mom's cous) 855 cM across 41 segments

[- David T (Townley?) Perry, born 1948, Coudersport.]
Christy Kiely(my dau) 822 cM across 34 segments
Melissa Sweeney (cous' dau) 685 cM across 36 segments
Complicating matters a lot is that Mike's father shares a common ancestor to me as well, John and Hannah TURNER DINGMAN, my 4th grgrandparents! Their daughter Margaret married Luther Strong, starting Mike's bio-father's lineage.
A Robert Farnsworth is Mike's closest DNA match in 23andMe, 1st cousins XH...
Gotta run, will pick up here later.

Congrats to your goddaughter!
This is all so crazy. Im going to look through with all i know given what you just sent me. I dont know if you have talked to any of the farnsworth family but im in contact with several of them. They are all extremely nice and helpful. I will see if they can help once i weed through this info.
