She graduated from Millcreek High School I think in 1951. We lost her in 2006 after several years of fighting cancer. She has 5 children, Donald Henry Shurwin; Daniel Laverne Shurwin, Douglas Edward Shurwin, Christi Lynn Shurwin, and we lost her son Dale Claire Shurwin at the age of 42 to cancer. <3 2Like · Reply · 4d Dayna Carpenter That was before McDowell High School was built. I doubt he had a vehicle then but if he drove the team of horses that far that would have been quite a pack-a-lunch trip. He was the oldest so he had to take care of the 5 younger brothers and sisters. My father, Richard Herbstritt, used to work in Linesville, PA. He traveled on the Harmonsburg Road, through Harmonsburg every day to get to work. I thought I would look on Google Maps for Harmonsburg and while doing, I zoomed in on the Harmonsburg Road, right in front of my parents house. Sadness overcame me. My mom wouldn't like that there are no flowers surrounding the house. This Google Maps view is looking westward on the Harmonsburg Road. My parents lived in that gray house on the left. I can almost see my dad standing in the doorway of that garage. 2Like · Reply · 5d · Edited Debbie Herbstritt Tautin I drive by our old house several times a week. I too feel sadness when I look at the house. Mom and dad kept the house looking really nice with lots of flowers. The house has basically been a rental property since mom and dad passed and it looks terrible. It recently sold again to a young family. I hope they take care of it. 2Like · Reply · 4d Dayna Carpenter - Larry, my info is so diluted because my mom was the 13th child and youngest, and I was the youngest also. My memories are always a little clouded for where and when anything or anybody was. I know where my dad grew up was a farm with a long driveway type entrance and it burned down later. Fire trucks when they finally got there rurally could not get to their house because cars had come to see the fire and blocked that driveway. So I don't know if that is when they had to move or what. I know my dad owned Cherry tree Corners in Edinboro years earlier and then sold it off in parcels to support everybody. We still went there when i was young and would camp as a vacation probably trespassing on someone else's property then but there was nothing built much. 1Like · Reply · 4d

  20180217 RVA- Larry Herbstritt February 11 at 11:00pm Dayna Carpenter (Hecker) recalls how her parents of Clarice Virginia Herbstritt met and fell in love. She recalls, "I love the story of how my mom and dad met. My grandmother, Josephine Regina Herbstritt, made jams and jellies in St. Mary's and sold them. My dad was a farmer in Edinboro and grew potatoes. He was delivering a lot of potatoes to the Herbstritts in St. Mary's and potatoes met jellies and that is how it all began." This is a photo o Henry Hecker & Clarice Virginia Herbstritt Hecker. Clarice was the daughter of Jacob & Josephine Jung "Young" Herbstritt, and Jacob was the son of Martin & Mary Krieg Herbstritt and Martin was the son of our German immigrants and founding family of St Marys, PA, Charles and Margaretha Paul Herbstritt.
