Hi, Brenda. Thx for accepting my invitation, also on 23andMe, where I saw that we are... 1st cousins? Well, maybe 2nd. Are you a Varney girl?
SAT 3:02PM
Hi, John! Thanks for reaching out. I just emailed you on 23 and Me. Are you cousins with Christy Jordan? She's my biological mother; we reconnected a year or so ago, thanks to the information superhighway.
wow! Yes, Christy's mother is my dad's sister, with whom I spent a lot of time when I was a toddler, I'm told. I saw Christy was your FB Friend; this really makes sense. I'm so glad you two found each other! You look remarkably like some cousins down in WV, whom we visited early to mid-60's. So nice to meet you!!
Neat! It's nice to connect to another member of the family. And it's interesting to hear that I resemble some other family members. I didn't grow up looking like anyone in my family, so that's fun to hear. I'm so glad to have found Christy. It was definitely a missing piece of my like. So nice to meet you too!
*of my life
23andMe seemed pretty confident that we shared grandparents, but the closest I could come was the Varney girls. This, I mean, YOU are a great missing piece from 'my great family tree picture puzzle of life'. I'd just like to be able to identify your adoptive family, and then your own- I love your FB posts [I get a lot of info from FB, pics, etc. I hope you don't mind.] The best I could get for your son's name was 'Shep'. Loved your Yosemite pic; We just took the whole family to Yellowstone last summer, awesome!
WOW! I'm surprised this didn't jump out at me earlier. I see so much of Christy in you! Especially that b&w pic, which I cropped for your profile pic in FTM (the software I use for my Tree).
Hahaha. Are the Varney girls Melda (was that her name) and her sisters? I don't know much about that part of the family. Are you looking for names of my family members? My son is Shep (William Shepard), and my husband is Paul Azzolina. We loved Yosemite! My husband and I met when we were living in CA, but it was the first time we took Shep. We can't wait to get to Yellowstone as a fam.
My adoptive family name is Modliszewski.
Melda VARNEY was our grandmother, her nieces were my reference. Gloria Modliszewski was your (adoptive) mother, right? Her maiden name? Name of your adoptive father? I just want to go that far up your tree, if you don't mind, going for completeness for DNA references in the future. [I love this stuff!]
Melda only had one sister, Leah, and 8 brothers. no wonder she was so tough! I posted a tree this morning on 23andMe. You should be able to access it. If you're on ancestryDNA, I can send you an invitation for those trees, if I have your User Name, or with your email address, I can send you an invitation.

Melda VARNEY WETZEL and her surviving brothers, ca 1955(?)- my father's mother, grand-niece of both feuding elders in the Hatfield-McCoy feud.
9:29AM
That's a great picture. Thanks! Their faces are saying a lot. I didn't realize Melda was a grand-niece of both Devil Anse/Levicy and Randolph/Sally. Do I have that right?
Gloria Modliszewski (Cichocki) is my adoptive mother; Francis Modliszewski is my adoptive father. I guess Karl Ursoy is my biological father, but we're not in contact. In my adoptive family, I have two sisters and a brother who is no longer with us.
My husband and I didn't know about the Hatfield/McCoy connection when we had our son, and I was floored to find that Devil Anse and Levicy had a son named Sheppard.

Thank you for your family info! About my grandmother (and yours), I'm putting together a relationship chart, so you can see the line to Ephraim HATFIELD, for instance, but I'm coming across a number of holes, where info was only incompletely merged from some of my other trees (I've had to break things apart in order to get around instability problems, been living with it ever since) so I'm working on some repairs. I'll send something on shortly.
I'd love to see that whenever it comes together! It's neat that you're doing this. I appreciate you looping me in!
Of course! You're family. Christy was so happy to have found you. I've generated a new Relationship Chart, from another Christy (my daughter, who would be your generation, so the relationships shown are YOUR relationships). It's a pdf, but it shows it loading.
Actually, I was able to save the files as png's. Here is one from you to Johnse (He was the one made famous by running off with the McCoy girl.) Did you see the Kevin Costner film? I've got the book, spoke with the author, who was the technical advisor to the film, which was based on his book. It's like home movies; we're related to just about everyone in it.
2:56PM
My husband, Paul, and I did watch the series! I enjoyed it very much. That's so funny, thinking about those as home movies. Ha. Thanks for the files! These are cool.
