my grandparents lived on Proctor Ave. But I am not exactly sure where this photo was taken, either on Proctor or Pop's house on Main Street. Pop being Grandfather Alexander Darby.

Dick Vargeson , True that the Dorns lived on Main, but also on Buffalo, and one on Proctor Ave which was Robert Dorn.
Darby's were related to the Dorns by marriage of Genevieve Darby to Harry Dorn.
Harry had the bar for a long time on Buffalo Street.
Robert Dorn lived across Proctor from Scoop and John Darby.

I have seen this picture a hundred times and never noticed Diane and Scoop in the background. I have to laugh, it was on these steps, when I was growing up, that I was told the "facts of life." I knew these things couldn't be true and I stomped off home mad about the whole thing. Do you remember cousin Diane??????? LOL

That was Scoop's house on Proctor. Practically grew up there. The other picture is of my house on East Main Street. I showed this picture to my sister and she says she thinks the truck belonged to her boyfriend, Dick Ryman from Knoxville when he would come to visit. That house has so many stories. My grandfather originally owned it (Grandpa Darby) and he bought it from the Tannery. He died in the up stairs hall where he would do puzzles sitting at his card table. He was Polish and rarely spoke English. Lots of stories there too.

Funny I practically lived there on Proctor it seems sometimes when I relive it in my mind plus I would visit your mom when I was young or old enough to walk over to the restaurant she would give me chips, and cans of soup.

Every time I look at this picture it makes me wish I could have grown up in this time period. Life was so much simpler (and I think better) then. Wouldn't it be great if today's kids could hang out at the local malt shop after school, drink a Coke, and listen to that "crazy" rock-n-roll music on the juke box? The world would be a better place!
