PORT ALLEGANY- Bonnie L. Bonawitz, 73, of N. Main St., passed away Tuesday (Jan. 24, 2017) in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
Born January 14, 1944, in Olean, NY, she was a daughter of Emery and Cleo Smith Lewis.
On Jun. 25, 1966, in Keating Summit, PA, she married Charles D. Bonawitz, who died Dec. 9, 2015. They were married 49 years.
Bonnie was a lifetime resident of the area and graduated from Austin High School, class of 1964. She had been employed with the former Sylvania Co. (now GTE) of Emporium.
Mrs. Bonawitz was a member of the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany, and was a life member of the Star Hose Auxiliary, and former member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
Surviving are
a son, Stephen C. (Jami) Bonawitz of Turtlepoint;
a daughter, Paula M. (Barry) Daugherty of Port Allegany;
two granddaughters,
- Kira and Kaelyn Bonawitz;
a brother, Richard P. Lewis of Port Allegany, and
a sister, Geraldine Moses of Port Allegany;
and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by
her parents,
husband Charles,
a granddaughter, Amanda Bonawitz;
five brothers:
- Cletis,
- Ronald “Bugs”,
- Charles,
- Vernan “Bing” and
- Eugene Lewis.
Friends will be received from 10-11 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 28, 2017) in the United Methodist Church, with a memorial service to be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Randall Headley, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
