Port Man Sentenced to State Prison
A Port Allegany man was sentenced Thursday to one to five years in state prison for failing to keep up with restitution payments from a Chop Shop scheme he had pleaded guilty to in 2010.
36 year-old Jason Daugherty had previously faced three probation hearings in the case in an attempt by the court to get restitution for the sentence. McKean County Court records indicate that Daugherty owes $34,700 dollars in restitution.

Why send him to prison when he needs to work to pay the restitution? Only in America. Our judicial system is so backwards! Not only will the people of Pennsylvania have to pay for him to be in prison, the people he owes money to will also not be paid. A double whammy of stupidity and a complete waste of the peoples money.

Obviously he wasnt making payments or he would not be going to prison. He broke the law whether you wanna believe it or not. people like you are why he is like he is. ENABLERS
Let him rot a few years in the state penn and perhaps he will realize what he did was wrong. maybe when he gets out he will pay his restitution as ordered.they tried probation hearings 3 different times with him.

your rite he did but he also has bills like everyone else unless mommy and daddy or someone pays them for you and since you want to pay taxes for him to sit there maybe the rest of us shouldn't have to let the people like you that believe he should be there pay for gimmick to be there and if it was you he owed money to do u wanna wait longer before you get it or would you like to have a little of it here and there....and yes this judicial system is messed up he gets put in state but the girl who resisted arrest and beat up a fifteen year old gets 23 months probation the guy that was there for his 5th dui gets 5weekends in jail that is a great judicial system isn't it

In this economy how could he pay $2500 per month? Most people around here that work for a living don't even make that much. I think rotting in prison is a little harsh for a first time offender, don't you? Everybody makes mistakes. Letting him work is not enabling him its letting him take care of his restitution without making the taxpayers of Pennsylvania chip in.

with Bubba breathing down his neck every night he may make more of an effort to pay his debt once he's out.
PS: If one lives a meager life, they can pay off their debts quicker. A hamburger will fill your tummy just as well as that steak. Those $25 jeans will keep you just as warm as a $150 pair.

If you are gonna play you gotta pay. Simple as that. Whats the difference if my tax dollars support a criminal that refuses to pay his restitution or a welfare bum that refuses to work. i am an upstanding citizen that does obey the law, I guarantee I will not end up in prison with Bubba breathing down my neck. How could he pay 2500.00 a month? He took far more than that from people. Three years of running a chop shop is not really not getting the job done. You call it what you want he is a bum.

You are so right 4:12 he has to pay & I do agree it will cost us to keep him but all he had to do was to make an effort to pay the money back that he owed, the courts will work with anyone that is trying & he did not make any effort to pay a penny back! We all make mistakes but he knew what he was doing was wrong, he stole, lied & cheated people & how do you think they feel? he robbed them of thousands of dollars, I would not be very happy with him!

7:40 I will spare you the English and Grammar lessons.(Although you could use some)You say it was not a chop shop, Here's the article in case you forgot.
SMETHPORT - The Port Allegany man accused of running a chop shop
between 2006 and 2009 pleaded guilty Thursday in McKean County Court
to charges relating to defrauding customers.
Jason Lyle Daugherty, 35, of South Main Street, Port Allegany - not
the same person as the Bradford City Police Officer by the same name
- pleaded guilty to altered or illegally obtained property and
deceptive business practices.
Between September of 2006 and March of 2009, while Daugherty was
operating Transformation Restorations, a classic car restoration
service in Port Allegany.
Assistant District Attorney Philip Clabaugh explained that during
that time, Daugherty switched a vehicle identification number - VIN -
from a “parts car” to a car he had accepted to restore, attempting to
pass one car off for the other. And during that time, he maintained a
website where he would post updates and photos maintaining it showed
progress on customers’ vehicles, when in fact it did not.
He did plead guilty to these charges. And you say let a judge take my job and license and see how well I do... I say don't break the law, don't steal from people
don't mislead people and keep your nose clean. Then you will do just fine. Welfare bums don't have a choice ? Is that what you are saying? Really? They don't have a choice to go make a living, support their families? With all the free programs out there to take advantage of there is no excuse to be on welfare for generations. There is one good reason for that to happen and it is called laziness.
The Judicial system forced Adelphia out of the area? Seriously you believe this too? Again crime closed Adelphia's doors not the system.
Golden spoons and Average lives... I am as average as they come believe me, My household income is less than $50,000.00 per year, I worked at Pittsburgh Corning for 19 years when I lost my job, I could have went on welfare and took the easy road, instead i went to college and learned another vocation and went back to work. I make far less than I did at PC, but I am working and supporting my family. Please don't preach to me about people not having choices or living a golden spoon life. You go ahead and make excuses for Jason and feel good about yourself for doing so. At the end of the day, no matter how you spin it, he is a criminal that tried his best not to pay for his mistakes, and it caught up with him.

I want to apologize for asking but who is "Bubba"? We know Jason and if somebody plans to cause him harm then the authorities need to know about it. We would also like to give kudos and dildines to the court system. Too many people fall behind on their debts such as fines and restitutions and the legal system looks the other way. It is unfortunate for Jason that he has to pay this restitution but the law is the law and we have to take a stand.

True, this defendant did break the law and he should have to pay for what he did, I feel that the punishment is a little steep. He is a good guy that made a horrible mistake. He is a first time offender and I feel that they should have gave him a little easier payments so that he could pay back the money that he owed and still live in today's economy. I have seen the judicial system fail so many times and this is one of them. I have witnessed people do things much worse than what the defendant did, on numerous occasions and just get a slap on the wrist, but the defendant messed up one time and had to go to state prison... That is not what I call fair and it doesn't give me much confidence in our judicial system.

I dont see how anyone can find it unfair that he sits in prison. How would you feel if it were your thousands that were stolen. He has done very little to even try to pay anything back. He lives in our foreclosed house for free and pays not one cent of child support. If he worked like every other person out there he would have more than enough to make an attempt to right his wrongs

I don't think he is a bad guy. He takes care of his family like he should. If I had to feed a family and keep a roof over there head I am sorry but thats more importion then pays fines. I know that he tryed his hardest to see his little girl. He helped lisa with her two boys. I can say he is a good dad. The new phone he got was a gift and no one ever stop to think maybe his girlfriend payed for dinner or whatever. I know he has helped more people out then I have. Why make him sit in there where he not paying anything to anyone let him work and pay to stay there. Let him work. It would help the county it he stay there and works. Everyone has a point and there are just some people that will kick you when you are down. He has been trying to get his life back. I don't think to many of you could sleep good knowing that you have thing to take care of like bills, kids, a girlfriend. And not bring home that much money a week. I know by the time he payed for food and bills there was not that much left for other things.

It's hard at pay back that much money when your whole world was turned upside down. If you had an exwife that took a truck and money from you. Then you some one ask you to do something for them and then calls the cops for what you did for them. I know some people that make more then he does and still are having a hard time paying there bills. Not everyone gets help. I know I have to pay for gas for a car to get place to place. I don't have a mom with alot of money or a car to take me where I need to go. The up keep on a car cost alot of money oil, brakes, tags, and ect... People should worry about themself and not who is doing this or that. I am in jason life everyday. I have been for a year. I will stand by him in all this he is a great guy. He has been so good to me and my kids.

Port Allegany Man Not Guilty Of Harassment Charge
PORT ALLEGANY MAN FOUND NOT GUILTY
Jason L. Daugherty of Port Allegany was found "not guilty" of Harassment in a summary trial in front of District Judge William Todd in Smethport Wednesday.
Daugherty was accused of harassment by Bobbi Jo Saltsman, also of Port Allegany, who had accused Daugherty of emailing and text messaging her on January 8, 2011. Charges were filed by Officer Dickerson of the Port Allegany Police Department.
Judge Todd ruled in Daugherty's favor after listening to arguments from Officer Adam Dickerson, and Miss Saltsman.
When Daugherty presented proof in the form of cell phone records and email records disputing Saltman's and Officer Dickerson's accusations, Judge Todd was quick to dismiss their claims, calling them " a huge waste of time".

Dickerson is one of those "gung ho" town cops who gets off by the power of a gun and a badge. I wonder if he's related to Phelps? Dickerson runs around Shinglehouse in his personal vehicle, rarely uses a turn signal, or stops completely at a stop sign. However, he'd be the first to pull you over and cite you for those infractions. The last thing a public servant should be is a hypocrite. Try doing your job with compassion, a friendly attitude, and abiding by the same rules you're are supposed to uphold. We all live here and we're all neighbors. In this case it sounds like one story was heard and the other was dismissed. Maybe a thorough investigation would have led to better use of taxpayer money.

Call Mr. Dickerson what you want, he is a true cop. He has told his mother he definitely would arrest her if she is doing something illegal, stop sign, whatever.
Officer Dickerson was very compassionate and a God send when we had some issues with our grandson and abuse by his mother. The officer knew exactly what to say when we needed him to tell us exactly what had happened. Our grandson opened up to the officer when we couldn't pry anything out of him.

I think that deep down, Officer Dickerson is a good guy, but he has some friends in "low places" in Port Allegany...which tarnishes both his image and the image of the police department. This was simply a case of him acting upon the wishes of one of those people. Hopfully he sees the light and keeps better company from now on.

Why isn't anyone saying anything about Bobbi Jo Saltsman? Seems she made false statements to start trouble and was proven a liar in court. True the officer should have done his due diligence but she should not be allowed to make false accusations and not be held accountable. Perhaps make her pay for the court costs.... I bet if that were the case she would stop doing these things.

Maybe you should have gone to the hearing to have the full story. There was a fraction of the story that didn't fit the piece of the puzzel and was only found out when they had a hearing. This is not a issue of false reports. The report was true, nothing false about it. Unfortunately the police have to believe the victim and have to proceed with the current evidence. I'm sure in this case you'll find that Ms.Saltsman initiated this texted call and unfortuantely daugherty fed into it and most like said things that people shouldn't say. Saltsman didn't like it and also continued to feed on this and eventually report it. Not an issue of false reports. Its an issue of stupidity on adults, Wish there was a law for that. Remember get the entire story before running your mouth after reading half the story.

This is just another case of the girl accusing a guy of something and the guy getting in trouble for it. Anymore if the girl says it happened then it did and the guy gets arrested or what have you. I'll be if they checked in to a lot more of this stuff they would find that the girls are filing false reports and then they would start getting burnt!!!!

That's why the whole system is messed up. Because people like you guys want to pay 32000 dollars a year to teach a fella a lesson instead of letting him take care of himself. Real smart people. Fools!

"Bubba" is the name used to define the dominate male in prison. IF a person would fall under "Bubba's" control, he would provide "favors" for him.
As far as the wardens, they'd just look the other way.

How about all of you who feel it’s an injustice to send him away get together and put the funds up he needs and let him pay you all back the best way he can?
This would be fair wouldn’t it?
He maybe a nice person and would see you got your money back.
