BORN 1940
DIED 2022
Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home
118 Union St
Shinglehouse, PA
On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, Elizabeth Ayers Hunsinger, loving wife and mother and beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away unexpectedly in her home at the age of 81.
Born on Sunday, Dec. 8, 1940 in Coudersport, she was a daughter of Emma Hulsizer Ayers and Truman A. Ayers Sr.
On Oct. 1, 1960 in Coudersport, she married Donald M. Hunsinger, who survives.
After living in Charleston, S.C. while Don was serving in the U.S. Navy, they made a home in the Austin/Wharton area, living there for the next 61 years.
There they raised three daughters,
- Judy, Kim and Holly.
Liz (or Lib to some) had a passion for her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She also loved to put together puzzles and play games. Her competitive spirit and sense of joy when the family played together is something that will live in her family's memory for years to come.
Liz was a member of the Austin United Methodist Church and a member of the Get Together Club and a former member of the former Mecca Chapter #217 Order of the Eastern Star in Austin.
Liz was a strong believer in service and spent many years teaching Sunday school, leading Girl Scouts and organizing bike-a-thons to benefit childhood cancer.
In addition, she spent several years acting as the secretary for the Costello United Methodist Church, the secretary for Wharton Township, and the secretary for the Ayers family reunion. She was known for her kind and compassionate spirit.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Don;
her children,
- Judy (Jerry) Meyers of Austin,
- Kim (Denny) Cooney of Austin, and
- Holly (Nick) Modock of Lake Orion, Mich.;
eight grandchildren, Andrew (Christy) Cooney, Lacy (Don) Ayers, Adam (Kanda) Walker, Aron (Jen) Meyers, Tyler Modock, Emma Modock, Jacob Modock, and Ryan Modock;
four great-grandchildren, Hayden Ayers, Parker Mutchler, Griffin Mutchler, and Garrett Meyers;
four sisters,
- Mary Kio,
- Doris Abbey,
- Beverly Allen, and
- Becky Emanuel;
six brothers,
- Truman Ayers Jr.,
- Richard Ayers,
- Bruce Ayers,
- Mark Ayers,
- Alan Ayers, and
- Scott Ayers,
a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Dale Hunsinger
and several special nieces, nephews and cousins.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her father, Truman Ayers Sr.;
her mother, Emma Hulsizer Ayers Staiger;
two sons,
- baby Hunsinger and
- Scott E. Hunsinger;
two brothers,
- Daniel Ayers and
- George Ayers and
two sisters,
- Rita Jean and
- Maude Irene.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 21, in the Austin United Methodist Church, Turner Street, Austin. The Rev. Todd Lamer, pastor, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Austin Education Foundation, c/o Austin Area School, 138 Costello Avenue, Austin, PA 16720; the Austin Ambulance Association, PO Box 328, Austin, PA 16720 or The Special Olympics, c/o Andrea Curtis, 315 North Lapeer Street, Lake Orion, MI 48362 (in memo: Lake Orion Special Olympics).
Elizabeth's family entrusted her care and cremation arrangements to Ke vin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.

JURORS EXCUSED FOR MARCH COURT
Court Will Be Held For Other Business Than Jury Trials Must Renew Bail Bonds.
Judge Robert R. Lewis has excused all grand and trial jurors from attendance at the regular March term of court. Court will be held for the disposition of business other than jury trials. All persons on bail must be present to renew their bail.
There were so few cases requiring a jury trial that the court deemed this the best and most economical method. It will save a neat sum for the taxpayers of the county.
BARN DESTROYED BY FIRE
Yesterday's Shinglehouse Mail says: The large barn on what is known as the Lew Chamberlin farm and now owned by John Burk, on the cross road between Myrtle and the power house, was totally destroyed by fire last night, together with farm machinery, hay and grain. The fire was discovered a- bout 6:30 o clock and was beyond con trol in a few brief minutes. A pumper came from Bolivar and connection made at the Oswayo creek, and a large farm house was saved.
The herd of 12 or 15 cows and a span of horses were lead to safety, and are being housed in a barn of Rex Turner's farm near Ceres. The destroyed barn was erected between 40 and 50 years ago and was of heavy frame structure. It was 40x120 feet in size of gamble roof style, being one of the largest in this section. Burk carried insurance with the Farmers Alliance, but just how much we were unable to ascertain this morning.
TRYING TO LOCATE GAS

Paul Kemp, Ira Press,
Fred Phoenix, H. B. Foster,

and Bert Kellogg
are the other members.
They have acquired leases in the Dundee gas field and commenced drilling a well on Waneta Lake near the village of Wayne. They are at a depth of 400 feet. Contractors E. H. Stone Ss Co., are doing the drilling. Here is hoping they strike a big gasser. Shinglehouse Mail.
