Elizabeth C. Hamilton, 91, Formerly Stannards, NY and Bingham Center, PA
Loving Mom and Grandma
Elizabeth C. Hamilton, 91, formerly of Riverview Heights, Stannards NY and Bingham Center, PA, died Wednesday, September 24, 2008 in the home of her daughter in Andrews Settlement, PA.
Born March 28, 1917, in Raymond, PA, she was the daughter of Floyd and Myra Galpin Perkins.
On August 24, 1936, in the Coudersport Free Methodist Church, she married George Reuben Hamilton, who predeceased her on January 23, 2007. They were happily married for over 70 years.
She attended the country school in Raymond and was a 1935 graduate of the Lewisville Vocational School in Ulysses. She and her husband owned and operated Hamilton Farms. She was a member of Ulysses Free Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, steward, and president of the womens missionary society.
Elizabeth was employed by the Big N in Wellsville, NY and retired from the Potter County Office of the Aging. She raised Pomeranian dogs, loved gardening, and saw humor in life.
Surviving are:
- a son, Douglas (Sharon) Hamilton of Genesee;
two daughters,
Joan (Craig) Torrey of Andrews Settlement and
Joy (Daniel) Glassmire of Coudersport, PA;
nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren,
- Amy (Kipp) Gray and daughter Faith of Hamlin, NY,
- Yvonne (Robert) Briggs and children, Devon, Tara, and Connor of Annandale, VA,
- Eric (Shambra) Hamilton and children Aislin and Wyatt of Genesee, PA,
- Jennelle Torrey of Rochester, NY,
- Josh (Misty) Torrey and children Audrianna and Benjamin of Genesee,
- Scott (Erica) Torrey and sons Brennan, Logan, and Morgan of Angelica, NY,
- Dustin Torrey of Andrews Settlement,
- Daniel Glassmire VI and Andrea Glassmire, both of Coudersport;
two sisters,
- Blanche Calhoun of Coudersport and
- Donna (Robert) Watson of Portville, NY;
two sisters-in-law,
- Rachel Rennells and
- Mary Nelson Green, both of Gerry, NY;
and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by ten siblings,
- Hugh Perkins in 1918,
- Lloyd Perkins in 1931,
- Robert Perkins in 1944,
- Reuben Perkins in 1959,
- Gertrude Freelove in 1982,
- Dorr Perkins in 1984,
- Myrtle Smith in 1992,
- Phyllis Thompson in 1993,
- Ruth Tambash in 2004, and
- Floyd Perkins, Jr. in 2004;
and a sister-in-law, Marjory Warriner in 1992.
Friends may call Saturday, September 27, 2008 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 PM at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA. Funeral Services will be held 2:30 PM, Sunday in the Ulysses Free Methodist Church. The Rev. Brad J. Miller and the Rev. Glenn A. Hamilton will co-officiate.
- Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Free Methodist Church, Ulysses, PA 16948.
