Betty Lyon
Betty D. Lyon, 92, of Sweden Valley, PA passed in her sleep to be with her Lord on Monday, January 11, 2010 at her home on Ice Mine Road.
Born on August 11, 1917 in Myrtle, PA she was the daughter of John and Lila Palmer Danforth.
On September 17, 1939 in Galeton, PA she married M. Stanley Lyon who died on June 23, 1986.
Mrs. Lyon was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School.
She was formerly employed with the Brownhill and Kramer Hosiery Mill in Coudersport. She later worked for many years in the cafeteria at the Coudersport High School. Mrs. Lyon was a member of the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher, organist, pianist, and choir director. She served on the Sweden Township election board, was a past member and treasurer of the Coudersport School Board, and she had volunteered at Sweden Valley Manor.
Surviving are
three sons,
- Theodore S. Lyon of New Holland, PA,
- Thomas C. (Elise) Lyon of Phoenix, AZ, and
- Terrance R. (Cathy) Lyon of Tyler, TX,
two daughters,
- Teresa Pine of Yardlay, PA and
- Toni (Douglas) Maclay of Stroudsburg, PA,
thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter,
- one brother, Harold (Pat) Danforth of Shinglehouse, PA,
- one sister, Gloria Kellogg of Shinglehouse, PA,
and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband,
- a brother, Byron Danforth, and
two sisters,
- Grace Kellogg and
- Arlene Perry.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2010 at the Fickinger Funeral Home, Coudersport, PA and on Saturday, from 12:30 - 2 p.m. at the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church. A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with her pastor, Reverend Thomas Shatto officiating.
- Burial will be in Sweden Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church. We love you, Mom.

Dear Ted, Tom, Terry, Teresa, and Toni,
I was very saddend to learn of the passing of your mom. Though it's been many years since I last saw her, I have always carried with me rememberences of her kindness and sweet disposition. She was a lovely lady, both inside and out and a dear friend to my late mom. My thoughts are with all of you through these most difficult days.

Resident of Shinglehouse Dies at Maple View Rest Home
Mrs. Erma MacLaren of Shinglehouse died Wednesday morning (Feb. 12, 1964), at Maple View Rest Home at Coudersport. She had been ill for a long time.
Deceased was a daughter of John C. and Helen C. Holly, born Feb. 3, 1880. In 1903 she married Amos B. Palmer who died in 1944. She married William A. MacLaren in 1952 and he died in 1953.
Mrs. MacLaren was a member of the Methodist Church at Shinglehouse and for years she was a practical nurse in Bradford and Olean.
Survivors are one son, Emiel D. Palmer of Syracuse, N.Y.; several grandchildren, four sisters,
Mrs. Em (Leda) Jackie of Olean,
Mrs. Earl (Ina) Perry of Chattanooga, Tenn.,
Mrs. Lawrence (Pauline) E.ghmey of Pittsfield and
Miss Florence McDowell of Olean;
a brother, Elba McDowell of Youngstown, Ariz.;
Six step-daughters,
Mrs. John (Lila) Danforth of Shinglehouse R.D.1,
Mrs. Elery (Lotus) Knapp of Takoma Park, Md.,
Mrs. William (Floss) Shields of Shinglehouse,
Mrs. William (Hortense) Jackson of North Tonawanda, N.Y.,
Mrs. Lester (Eloise) Rudd of Tonawanda, N.Y., and
Mrs. John (Muriel) Marsh of Niagara Falls, N.Y.;
a stepson, Wallace MacLaren in Florida,
and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held Friday with the Rev. George Snow, Methodist pastor, officiating.
Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
