This post is for the descendants of Karl "Charles" & Margaretha Paul Herbstritt, my 2nd great grandparents through Joseph Christian Herbstritt. As you will see from Robert George Herbstritt's family tree, his 2nd great grandparents are Karl "Charles" and Margaretha Paul Herbstritt. Some of you may also share Robert's great grandfather, Martin Herbstritt. Michael Herbstritt - [Jennifer T. Herbstritt - Ellen Merritt - & Georgia Wehler]
Without this DNA match on Ancestry.com, I would probably have never known of Robert George Herbstritt, my 3rd cousin. It appears his granddaughter, Cara Herbstritt, convinced her father, either Richard Herbstritt or Robert Herbstritt, to do a DNA test. It is with Robert George's son, "R Herbstritt" that my DNA match is shown.
This is what I found about Robert George Herbstritt from his obituary:
Robert G. Herbstritt, of Erie, happy to have reached his 80th birthday, passed away Wednesday March 29, 2006 in Cape Coral, Fla.
He was born February 22, 1926 in Ridgeway, Pa., a son of the late Raymond A. and Laura C. Schnieder Herbstritt.
Robert's ancestors, Charles "Karl" and Margaretha Paul Herbstritt, were among the first fifteen families, all Catholic, to settle the area in Elk County, Pennsylvania, which they first named Marienstadt (German for Mary's Town), and was later changed to St Marys.
Charles's and Margaretha's son, Jacob, married Regina Young.
Their son, Raymond A. Herbstritt married Laura C. Schneider, Robert's parents.
Bob proudly served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He retired after 30 years from American Meter Company, was employed at the Kahkwa Club, and was co-owner of Elk Valley Golf & Recreation from 1976 to 1994. He spent many happy hours at EV, working, and, as an avid golfer, sharing remarkable moments on the course, with family and loyal friends. He coached football and basketball at Sacred Heart Catholic School for many years, and was later employed there as Maintenance supervisor. Bob and Norma supported Gannon Basketball, and enjoyed all the endeavors of their children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Elks Club, and, while wintering in N. Fort Myers, his friends and visiting family awaited Mondays, for the "roasted chicken special."
He leaves behind
- his beloved wife of 58 years, Norma (Ricci) Herbstritt;
- sister Grace Young of Ky.;
- brother Donald Herbstritt and his wife Lillian of Erie; and a
- sister-in-law, Dolores Ricci.

- Richard M. Herbstritt and his wife Patricia,
- Daniel M. Herbstritt and his friend Julie Lukowich,
- William R. Herbstritt, and

His grandchildren cherished him,

- Stephen,
- Richard and his wife Kelly,
- Michael,
- Kamran,
- Laura,
- Danielle, and
- Jewel Herbstritt, and

His family and friends will remember him fondly as a kind, generous, loving man, with a warm, embracing smile, and gentle spirit. We will meet him on the 19th hole

Debbie Herbstritt Tautin A long time ago when I worked at Free-Col Laboratories, I happened to answer the phone and the caller identified himself as Richard Herbstritt (I'm sure the same Richard Herbstritt mentioned above). I was dumbfounded. I told him that my father's name was also Richard Herbstritt. We had a brief conversation before I transferred his call. He told me he was a professor at Gannon University (Erie, PA). He said his family originated from St. Mary's. I knew for sure our families were connected.

Cara Herbstritt
Cara Herbstritt The professor Richard Herbstritt is not my uncle. But us a cousin. I would have to look at my tree to where he falls.

Larry Herbstritt
Larry Herbstritt He was probably the son of Robert George. And he's probably the "R.H." Herbstritt on my DNA match

Larry Herbstritt
Larry Herbstritt Ancestry doesn't give information about "living" cousins so I'm guess-timating that "R. H." Herbstritt was born around 1946.

John Christy Wetzel
John Christy Wetzel Larry, isn't Martin between Karl/Margaretha and Jacob/Regina, ie, Isn't Martin the father of Jacob? It appears that way in the ancestry photos, anyway- "Charles's and Margaretha's son, Jacob married Regina Young. Their son, Raymond A. Herbstritt married Laura C. Schneider, Robert's parents."
