| Saturday afternoon Grover M. Reed, son of Philander Reed and wife of Pleasant Valley, was thrown under a load of wood and instantly killed. Mr. Reed was working for Frank Beckwith and in pursuance of his duties had gone with the team and lumber wagon with bark rack up the hollow for a load of poles for fire wood. About two o\'clock while returning the front wheels struck a chuck hole breaking the reach, the end of which was stuck in the ground throwing the wagon and contents over a ten foot embankment. The young man who was riding on the load was buried beneath the wood and wagon at the bottom of the ravine. The horses, thoroughly frigntened dashed down the road, dragging after them the front wheels of the wagon. They were stopped at the home of Will Fisk, about a quarter of a mile\' from where the accident occurred. Mr. Fisk, who is a brotherin-law of Mr. Reed at once started up the road to see if he could be of any assistance. Upon reaching the scene of the accident he found the dead body of the young man completely covered with the exception of his feet which protruded from the bottom of the pile. |

Upon reaching the scene of the accident he found the dead body of the young man completely covered with the exception of his feet which protruded from the bottom of the pile. Help was at once summoned, the wood removed and the remains taken to Mr. Fisk's home. Dr. Squires of Roulette was called who upon examination discovered that the neck was broken and that death in all probability was instantaneous. The accident is one of the saddest that has ever occurred In that section of Potter County. The victim was robust, hearty, just in the prime of early manhood, and respected by all who knew him. He was born November 2, 1885 in Pleasant Valley Township where he has spent his life.
He is survived by his parents and sister, Mrs. William Fisk. Funeral services were held at the Sartwell Creek church Monday at 2:30. The large number of persons present and the beautiful flowers spoke louder than words of the high esteem in which he was held. Interment was made in the Sartwell Creek cemetery under the direction of G. H. Grabe & Son..
