John, This should have gone with my earlier e-mail, just in case you ever need the Pierce-Wetzel evidence. The below record actually says that Mahala was the wife of George Whitsell of Mason County, VA. (not my addition!) I also have a photo copy of William Pierce's will. Carolyn 1850 - June 14 - Gallia County, Ohio Chancery Records, 1835-1852 Hiram Wilcox, Adm. of William Pierce vs. widow and heirs, CH. 3, 418-423. June 14, 1850. Section 19-7-15 which is Morgan Township. Sale of property to settle estate. Rebecca Pierce widow. Heirs: Mary Ann Adney, wife of John Adney of Mercer County, Ohio; Mahala Whitsell, wife of George Whitsell of Mason County Virginia (name changed to Wetzel; also sometimes found Whitzel); Daniel M. Her maiden name was Morris. She was born in Monroe County, Ohio near Clarington. She married in Monroe county and she and her husband and only child came to Tyler county about 40 years ago. Mr. Wetzel died in January 1896. Mrs. Wetzel is survived by her daughter, Mrs. A. T. Marlow, and by nephews, Joseph Wetzel and Isaac Wetzel of New Martinsville, W.Va., and by her niece, Mrs. John Hickman. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. U. G. Edgell of the M.P. Church at Archer's Chapel at the old homestead. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery at Middlebourne, W.Va [now Middlebourne Cemetery].
