Notes

Leonard Roberts, son of Moses and Matilda (Yost) Roberts, was engaged in farming at the outbreak of the Rebellion. He was 21 years of age when he entered the ranks, 16 June 1861 at Wheeling, WV in Company E, 2nd WV VI. In 1863, he was wounded slightly by saber at the Battle of Raccoon Ford. In February 1864, he was furloughed for 30 days and returned to Cumberland, MD at the end of that time. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of New Creek and was held in Pemberton Prison for 3 months 7 days.

In February 1864, he had been granted an honorable discharge in order to re-enlist as a veteran and in July 1865, he was transferred to Company K, 6th WV V Cavalry. In the winter of 1862, he had been placed in Pioneer Corp for 3 months. He was honorably discharged September 1865 at Washington, DC. having participated in the Battles of Winchester,

Rock Gap,
Droop Mountain,
Cedar Mountain,
Salem Road,
Cedar Creek,
Beverly Ford,
Hunterville,
Warren Springs,
Raccoon Ford,
White Sulphur Springs.
He was a member of Captain G. Powell Post No. 17. His home post office, Bird, WV.
