  20201123HAv- Jeremiah Sneed PERRY and wife Laura Frances MARTIN Posted 29 Dec 2011 by GeorgiaNelms Information from my mother, Mary Gertrude PERRY KING: "Uncle Jerry rode across mountain to our place -- on a mule -- and brought baby to Mama." This mid-winter trip was through the Leatherwood Mountains from Snowball in Searcy County, Arkansas to Advance, Matney Township, in Baxter County, Arkansas. One can just imagine the sight of this recently widowed, grief-stricken man, riding the mule, with a newborn baby. He would have to make arrangements about the older children before leaving. Then -- without any advance notice -- his brother's surprise when he and the baby arrived. Then, their shock to learn of Laura's death. It was fortunate Fannie, his sister-in-law, could nurse and take care of another infant. Urban Elton survived, grew to manhood, and had a long life. When telling this story, she thought it was her brother Claude (b. 1894) that was the newborn her mother would have been nursing at the time Laura Frances PERRY died in 1896. It was a few years after she died in 1993 that I understood she was the newborn in her family, as she and Urban Elton PERRY were born one month apart. I would sometimes "talk to her" and I said, "No, Mama, it was you -- you were the one that shared your mother."
