Adam Runner left no will, but his estate was appraised February 15, 1796, and recorded May 10 of the same year. (Mongomery County Deed Book A, P402) Records indicate that he was definitely living in Wythe County Virginia in 1751 when his first child, Adam Runner, Jr. was born. Some speculate that Adam Runner, Sr. was the son of a German immigrant, Gottlieb Lauffer, who came to the US in the early 1700s and settled in Maryland. ["Laeufer" means 'runner' in German (umlauted 'a') -jcw20160821] Based on the information I have been able to locate to date, there is no record or other evidence that connects Adam Runner, Sr. to the Lauffer clan, which immigrated to America from the German State of Baden Wuertemberg.
