  	20220817GHLn- Adam Runner - children mentioned in lawsuit Posted 05 Aug 2021 by vnat01 The children of Adam Runner were mentioned in a lawsuit found in Wythe County Superior Court Chancery Pleas and were given as follows: (1) Adam, (2) Jacob, (3) Catherine who married Peter Smith and moved to Kentucky, (4) Elizabeth who married John Runyan, (5) Margaret who married John Smith, (6) Susannah who married Robert Curry, (7) Mary who married John George Schroeder, and (8) Lovis who married Joseph Honaker first and at his death married Benjamin Jones and moved West. Adam Runner left no will, but his estate was appraised February 15, 1796, and recorded May 10 of the same year. The book EARLY ADVENTURES OF THE WESTERN WATERS, VOL II, by Mary Kegley p age 397 discusses Adam Runner living in Drapers Valley as early as 1786, on 230 acres of land on Macks Run. (Mongomery County Deed Book A, P402) Records indicate that he was definitely living in Wythe County Virginia in 1751 when his first child, Adam Runner, Jr. was born. Adam Sr. and his wife (name unknown) had a total of eight children. 8 Children with ? ? Some speculate that Adam Runner, Sr. was the son of a German immigrant, Gottlieb Lauffer, who came to the US in the early 1700s and settled in Maryland. ["Laeufer" means 'runner' in German (umlauted 'a') -jcw20160821] Based on the information I have been able to locate to date, there is no record or other evidence that connects Adam Runner, Sr. to the Lauffer clan, which immigrated to America from the German State of Baden Wuertemberg.
