- Mrs Mary Townley died May 22, aged 85 years, at the home of her son, S H Power, in Eustice, Florida, where she made her home for the past nine or ten years. The deceased, who was a shining example of the power of faith in the Lord, was married to Washington Power in April, 1833. Mr Power died in the spring of 1835 at Huron, O, of cholera, leaving one child, the son with whom Mrs Townley resided at the time of her death. In the fall of 1850 she was again married to John Townley, who departed this life in January, 1883. His death also occurred quite suddenly in Florida, as they were then visiting at the home of S H Power.
Mrs Townley, whose maiden name was Mary Thatcher, became a church member very early in life and first united with the Presbyterian church of Sheakleyville. After her marriage to Mr Townley they both became members of the Presbyterian church in Rockville. After her removal to her son's home in Florida she united with the Presbyterian church of Eustice.
Mrs Townley won the regard and esteem of all who knew her by her qualities as a woman and a Christian and leaves besides the large circle of friends to mourn her loss, the son before mentioned, S H Power, and four stepsons,
- Jefferson,
- John,
- Robert, and
- Alexander Townley.
