- [SHAY 15010 Silas.FTW] Malchijah was listed in in the 1818 tax digest for Warren Co., GA with 250 and 118 acres. He appeared in the 1820 census for that county with two sons, one daughter and three slaves. About 1821, he went with his brothers, Elisha and Zedekiah to Alabama. He settled with Sarah and the children at Green Pond, near the present location of Birmingham. About 1831, there is a record of Malchijah applying with Mary L. Harris, widow, for letters of administration of the estate of Claiborn Harris. In the 1850 U.S. census of Tuscaloosa Co., AL, Malchijah and Sara have Richard and Elizabeth Jones, the children of Grace, living with them. Malchijah's estate was valued at $2,500. Malchijah is reported to have recorded a deed for T24 N R 9 E St. Stephens meridian W-1/2 of Se 1/4 of Section 6 consisting of 80.37 acres on November 18, 1851. Malchijah died intestate. The Minutes of the Orphans Court book shows William F. McMath and James Hill as administrators. The settlement was given on November 18, 1852. The assets of the estate were valued at $15,692.05, and Mrs. McMath was to receive an equal share with the children and heirs, each share being $1,743.56. The children of Grace Jones each received half of their mother's share. The securities for the estate had been Elisha and James McMath (Elisha's son). The appraisers were Ninian Tannehill, James H. McMath, James H. Green, Phillip Shettlesworth and Elisha McMath. On February 21, 1851, Richard A. Jones chose Winder H. McMath as guardian. Securities William F. McMath, Elisha McMath, Benjamin L. Williams made application for guardianship of Elizabeth A. Jones, infant under 14, child of Richard A. Jones. On July 13, 1852, Sarah McMath, who signed her name with an X, made a gift of one slave each to these two grandchildren.
