  [SHAY 15010 Silas.FTW] According to the 1850 U.S. census of Tluscaloosa Co., Al, James was a merchant with property valued at $500. He enlisted at the rank of Captain of Company G (North Port Rifles), 11th Regiment of the Alabama Infantry of the Confederate States of America on June 11, 1861. He was killed in the Battle of Frazier's Field outside of Richmond, VA on June 30, 1862. His name appears on a report of casualties of the 4th Brigade, Longstreet's Division, in action before Richmond, VA.
