I am descendant of Peter Wetzel (Whetzel) who died in Wythe County, VA. I am attaching a Descendants of Peter Wetzel chart. I am #44 on page 12. I have about 7000 names in my database, and have never been able to figure out how to save a GED file of selected parts of this database. If you know how, please let me know, and I will send it to you. I use FTM version 7.5. I know it is an old version, but I have never upgraded it.

I have burned the DVD’s and am sending them out tomorrow.
The main FTW file is under Family Tree Maker, Wetzel 2010.ftm.
The files and folders within the Family Tree Maker folder constitute the media files backing up the Tree.
The second main folder, My Genealogy, is comprised of other files I've collected yet to add to the Tree, and there's a lot more where they came from, in another back-up drive. Much of it I had painstakingly typed into my computer from the original files years ago at the Potter County, PA Historical Society, among others, but these are mainly already in the Tree as direct notes, come to think of it.
At any rate, let me know if you can/can not read it and if it is/isn't useful. I look forward to this collaboration and to making some real progress now, as we each get to squeeze a little time into it.
It is such a relief to see how this comes together, especially through the DNA evidence.
I will renew my efforts to get back a couple more generations and will look into the Alsace possibility.
Please feel free to comment, correct, offer suggestions/alternatives, etc. I want this to be as accurate as possible.

Jon, you're my hero!!!! We indeed have a match of 35 loci. And in addition, another match with John Christy Wetzel. I am sorry that I don't have more time to devote to this endeavor right now, but I am looking forward to working on this when I am finished my cemetery book. I know I have forwarded my tree before, but I am going to send another so that you guys can try to plug into it.

As you can see, we are 8 generations from the common ancestor, so we are 8th cousins. I believe that you are both related to me through Hans Martin WETZEL, who went a little farther afield than any of my ancestors did. (considering I'm the only one in the tree on the right above that lived anywhere other than PA) Maybe Peter WETZEL b 1769 is a brother of Martin b. 1757 m. Mary BONNETT. Jean Jaques BONNETT, father of Mary BONNETT was mentioned in the book "Pioneers of Old Monocacy" by Grace L. Tracey & John P. Dern. This puts them in MD at some point if he is considered a "pioneer". Also, Hans Martin WETZEL, Jr. , brother of John WETZEL b 1733 and s/o Hans Martin WETZEL b. abt 1700 baptized 5 children at Monocacy Lutheran Church in Frederick Co., MD Maybe Peter WETZEL b. 1769 is a grandson of Hans Martin WETZEL, Jr.
Maybe with this information, you can zero in on the connection between you two and John C. WETZEL.
