The verdict ended six hours of deliberation shortly before midnight on Saturday. District Attorney E.B.Potter asked for the death penalty, declaring the Negro admitted he stabbed Campbell after being surprised while entering the building to steal money in the office. Potter pictured the youth as repeatedly driving a knife into the older man's body while the janitor was trying to reach a fire alarm signal.
