Hi John,
I believe George Wetzel was born about 1767 (per the 1850 census). Elizabeth was a little younger (if she was on 1840 census, perhaps 5- 10 years younger, although cannot rule out that was a 2nd wife). In 1800, they had 3 daughters under 10 (so could have been married somewhere in 1790 - 1795 timeframe). They are on the 1800, 1810, 1820 censuses in Allegany county. According to Maurice Snook's research, they are on the 1830 Allegany census also (I could not find them though). I did find a younger George "Whitsell" in Fountain county, Indiana in 1830. That's significant because Elizabeth's brother William Snook moved there. Perhaps that was a son? Then in 1840, George was in Monongalia, VA. There is a wife of the correct age to be Elizabeth Snook although cannot rule out 2nd wife. Then in 1850, George is on that 1850 census for Monongalia, VA that I sent you. He is living with the family of Joseph Jones and Mary (Wetzel) Jones. Mary was reportedly a daughter. He was living next to the family of your Henry Wetzel and his son John Wetzel. I note in 1840, there was a young man > 20 living with George and wife. That could have been Henry, still living with parents, perhaps with wife and first child also in household.
The proximity to the Youst family, particularly Margaret (Snook) Youst is also a clue. Margaret was Elizabeth's sister according to the probate records for Mathias Snook.
Here is one descendant of George and Elizabeth on ancestry. I think he's got a fairly accurate description of the family. Also, he's linked the same census records that I found. Can you look at the records on ancestry? I can try to find the same records on familysearch (free) and email those to you.
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/1335724/person/24006948207
The trees that list Elizabeth as born 1800 aren't correct (IMO). However, they also purportedly had a daughter Elizabeth so perhaps there was some confusion there.

Charlotte,
There is a problem with the lineage you elaborate to George Wetzel, for whom I find NO wife/children info on ancestry.com. That may be because he died young, either ca 21 or 26 yrs old; maybe he didn’t have a family.
At any rate, the Elizabeth Snook I find (ancestry.com) was born in 1800, so this George doesn’t fit, but there are plenty of others; George was a common name in this Wetzel branch.

Importance: High
Dear Charlotte,
I apologize, I just caught your email, while transitioning systems…
This is very interesting.
First of all, my upload on the FTDNA site had made some changes, mis-naming a few of my ancestors(!), and I believe this Christy was one of them.
My father’s name is Edwin Paul Wetzel.
My father’s father’s name was Christy Robert Wetzel.
His father John Wetzel, married Mary Ellen Matthews (9 children) and Hannah Mercer (9 children)- 18 kids- What was he thinking?!?!?!.
His father, Henry, the Henry who married Mary Ann Brookover (they had 7 children together)and also Rebecca Barker (one child, George- there are a lot of George Wetzels).
His father was George.
I’m attaching an ancestry report with a little more detail, just names at this point, and even it is 641 pages, going back 12 generations from me. [It’s almost 8 MB; I hope this does not cause reception issues on your end. I will send this note without the attachment, as well, just in case.]
Details about Henry are one of my MAJOR genealogy/ancestry challenges. He is almost always confused with a minister of the same name (or are they one and the same? I really don’t think so) and this Henry… is YOUR Henry!
So I’d love to know what you have about him.
I’ll share what I know, starting with the ancestry report. I hope this will answer your questions, but if not, I hope we can collaborate, because we probably have some of the same issues with this generation.
The only Snook I have in my tree is Mary Marguret (and I don’t have her parents, but I’ll search), who married Elbert Maynard Calkins; do you have her/them and is this correct?:
Descendants of Mary Marguret Snook
Generation 1
1. MARY MARGURET1 SNOOK was born on 10 May 1900. She died on 31 Dec 1974. She married (1) ELBERT MAYNARD CALKINS. He was born on 26 Feb 1879. He died on 04 Jun 1933.
Elbert Maynard Calkins and Mary Marguret Snook had the following children:
i. ISABELLE MAUDE2 CALKINS was born on 15 Apr 1881. She died on 29 Apr 1965.
ii. J ARTHUR CALKINS was born about 1901. He died about 1957.
iii. PRIVATE.
iv. PRIVATE.
I’m so excited that you wrote! I am now going to go through your information and see if it adds any clarification. But I wanted to write first, to say-
Thank you so much for sharing,
John C. Wetzel

Subject: FTDNA match - believe through Wetzel line
Hello,
You match both my husband Steve Kensil and his maternal aunt Roxy Manning. The match with Roxy is particularly strong with two long segments on chromosome 8.
I believe the common ancestor is in your Wetzel line. Steve and Roxy are descendants of Mathias Snook and his wife Barbara. One of their daughters, Elizabeth Snook, married a George Wetzel. One of their sons may have been Henry Wetzel who married Mary Brookover and had a son John Wetzel born 1839. I believe that is the same as your tree except that you have Mary Brookover's husband as a Christy Wetzel. Is it possible that he was Henry Christy Wetzel? If so, I believe his mother would have been Elizabeth Snook who would have been sister to Catherine Snook (my husband and his aunt's line).
The chromosome 8 match overlaps Richard Perry Yantis, with whom we have a more definitive Snook match (back to Mathias and Barbara).
Best regards,
Charlotte

Hi John,
I believe George Wetzel was born about 1767 (per the 1850 census).

But I wanted to write first, to say-
Thank you so much for sharing,
John C. Wetzel

Hello,
You match both my husband Steve Kensil and his maternal aunt Roxy Manning.
Best regards,
Charlotte
