Note:
SOURCE #1: William McCoy was born in Montgomery County, VA where he served in the Revolutionary Army in the Virginia Continental Line. He was awarded 200 acres of land in Virginia, in what is now Floyd and Pike County, Kentucky, for his services. He died in the area of Pike County, KY, in 1822. He was the father of 12 children.

SOURCE #2: William McCoy, progenitor of the McCoys of the Kentucky-West Virginia border area, (family tradition calls him "Old William") was born 1750 - 1755. He and his wife were the parents of 13 children: ten sons and three daughters. It is thought that the William McCoys came from Maryland, and there is evidence that two sons, John and Samuel, were born there. Some descendants say that William lived near Cumberland, Maryland, and one descendant was told many years ago by an older McCoy relative that the McCoys once lived where the Antietam Battleground now stands.

Most census records give Virginia as the birthplace of William's children. For the younger children, this information is, no doubt, true. William lived in Montgomery County, Virginia, and some of his children were probably born there. Several of his older children seem to have married there. Two sons, Ezekiel and Walter, lived in Tazewell County, Virginia, just prior to coming to Kentucky.

William McCoy and his family settled on John's Creek, near a Scott settlement (now Gulnare) about 1804. William Scott married Elizabeth McCoy, daughter of William, and they probably came to Kentucky a short time before. William McCoy first appeared in the Floyd County, Kentucky, census of 1810 with a wife and five sons. William and his wife appeared alone in the 1820 Floyd County census. They are missing in the 1823 Pike County tax list, and it is assumed that they died before that time.

Relatives of Alex Roberts

My father was Thomas Roberts and my mother was Marietta McCoy Roberts.
My Grandfather on my father's side was old Billy Roberts and my grandmother's name on my father's side was Tabitha Webb. My father had two brothers, Rice Roberts and John H. Roberts. He had five sisters. They were Polly, Frances, Emaline and Emily (These were twins) and Mary Roberts. [handwriten: Probably a granddaughter (Mary O Dear)]
My grandfather on my mother's side was old Daniel McCoy and my grandmother's name on my mother's side was Peggy Taylor before being married to my grandfather McCoy.
My Mother had seven brothers and five sisters, namely Harmon, Samuel, William, James, Randolph, John and Pharmer McCoys. The sisters' names were Nancy, Sally, Vicy ("Louisa") Harriet, Jannie, and Marietta, who was my mother.
My father and mother was born and raised in Logan County, West Virginnia. They were married in 1858 (1861, Co records show). Shortly after their marriage, they came to Kentucky.
At the age of seven years, my father lived on Blackberry Creek at Blue Spring. They moved to Russell Fork of Sandy River near the mouth of Road Creek, which is now on the R.R. side of the river. This was in the year of 1877, 55 years ago this November, 1933 and I have lived within 6 miles of Elkhorn City since above stated date.
[This is a copy of a paper Grandpa had written in 1933. Aunt Lula gave it to Roger in 1976. I already knew about William Roberts and Daniel McCoy but didn't know names of their wives nor the correct names of their children).
