I looked at the source, and it covers back to 1620, but Thomas Hatfield is listed under a 1637 list, when he went to Leyden, Holland. If he did arrive in 1620, he would be on the Mayflower. That can't be. I wish I could get this corrected.

Robinson had been an Angelican minister but came to believe like the Puritans that the churcdh was becoming too much like the Roman Catholic Church. Because of the persecution of the Puritans and Separatists by King James I (1556-1625). Robinson and our Hatfield ancestor left for Holland, arriving first in Amersterdam, and then moving to Leyden. Soon after the congretation settled in Leyden John Robinson was publicly ordained as their new minister. William Brewster became their ruling elder. People from all over England made their way to Leyden and in tme, the congregation came to number several hundred. Thomas, followed the Puritan exodus to Leyden, Holland. His last name was given as Hadvelt for his marriage to Anna. He was a woolcomber as a young man. I believe that he is buried somewhere in Holland (possibly in Leyden or Amsterdam). Also the birth year above can't be possible. I've scanned many records and as far as I can tell the 1st Hatfields in America were Thomas 2nd (came to Am in 1665) who ended up settling in Westchester County, NY (North of New York City) and Matthias who 1st show's up in CT , marries Maria Mylen, and then is one of 1st settlers in Elizabeth-town, NJ. I think there is some confusion between the 2 Thomas because of a story in "Hatfields of Westchester" involving a Cox (probably a descendent of Anna's). There is also some doubt as to the relationship between Matthias and Thomas as there is some evidence that they may not be brothers. But that's another discussion. 18 Aug 2012 ____________
