Notes

This story is highly suspect, with a number of probable errors, starting with place of birth; and what about Elizabeth Vance? and the other wives? (jcw, 07.06.2011)- and cf Payne Family Tree- I think the John McCloud w Sarah Vance is different from John w Elizabeth Vance.(?)
-I agree- jcw20161230 so I removed Wicked Betsy from this John. So, who was my 4th grgrandfather?

McCloud Voyage to America
John MacCloud was born ABT. February 16, 1799 in Ireland. According to family folk lore, John's father stole horses for a living and was caught and hung. After the capture of his father, John and his siblings, their mother did not travel with them reasons unknown, decided it was best if they fled Ireland. *They boarded the ship "Barkley" in Londonderry, Ireland. The ship sailed with John and his siblings in late 1815 or early 1816. I have been unable to find any information about the voyage.
The Barkley arrived in New York, August 14, 1816. John MacCloud Anne MacCloud (no further information) Daniel MacCloud (no further information) James MacCloud (no further information) Mary Ann MacCloud (no further information) Neile MacCloud (no further information) During the immgration process the MacCloud name spelling was changed by the immgration officers to McCloud. This was a common occurance during this period of time. After the McCould's arrival, they traveled to the Tug Fork River Valley of Virginia, where they settled.

John met and married Sarah Vance in the year 1830.
Sarah was the daughter of *Abner Vance, she was born in 1809, Russell County, Virginia.
Of the union of John and Sarah the following children were born: There were several of John and Sarah's children that were confederate soldiers during the civil war. Sarah was a devoted house wife. While John was a farmer in Logan County. In 1867 the house of John McCloud was struck with greif. Sarah passed away on July 19, 1867. She was buried July 22, 1867 in the Mose Vance Cemetary at Dingess. John followed her in death ten years later on May 8, 1877 he was laid to rest May 11, 1877 beside his lovely wife in the Mose Vance Cemetery.
