Elliott Elected Council President
Coudersport's new borough council, meeting Monday night in the hose rooms for organization, rehired Robert T. Grabe as borough treasurer but tabled the resignation of John W. Mahaley, secretary-solicitor, until tomorrow night, pending further investigation. Mr. Mahaley had indicated he would accept the job again if his salary were increased about $1,000 per year.
Carl H. Roberts, Charles Upde-graff and John Karr were sworn in by burgess Mort. W. Levinson, who conducted the meeting prior to the election of James L. Elliott as president for the next two years. Mr. Elliott was in charge of the balance of the meeting which lasted from 8:00 o'clock until about 10:30.
Mr. Grabe, who. for years has served as trustee of the Schildeberger Estate as well as borough treasurer, will receive the same salary for the latter position $125 per year. He reluctantly agreed to continue as trustee of the estate after he had been assured that the borough will attempt to dispose of the two houses owned by the estate during this year.
Street commissioner Oliver Watson was re-appointed by the new council at the same salary, although he had requested an increase for himself and other borough street employes. Council members asked for time to study the budget before any salary or wage increases are granted.
It was also decided by the newly-organized borough governing body that regular meetings will be held the first Monday of each month at 7:30 in the hose rooms.
Committees named by Mr. Elliott include the following:
Street Mr. Karr, chairman; Mr. Updegraff, Mr. Watson and Tom Leete.
Lighting Owen E. Metzger, chairman; Mr. Roberts.
Safety Mr. Leete, chairman; Mr. Metzger and the borough's two police officers, Paul Hughes and Earl B. Smith.
Fire Mr. Updegraff, chairman; fire chief Arthur Nelson and Theodore Williams, assistant chief.
Borough sewers - Mr. Roberts, chairman; Mr. Karr, Mr. Metzger and Mr. Watson.
Library - Morton Lilly and Mrs. H. A. Dorfeld. (Note: The library board consists of seven members two appointed by the council, two by the school district and three elected at large).
Miss Frances I. Niles was retained as librarian at a monthly salary of $160. The appointment of a recreation ((continued on Page 4)

Edw. Weiss Faces Charge Of Hit-Run
Edward F. Weiss, 24, North Bingham, made double trouble for himself and before the new year had fairly gotten on its way.
Investigating State Troopers state that his car was smashed up to the extent of about $400 at 7:45 last Friday night a short distance above Burtville on Route 6.
Troopers explained he was rounding a curve at such speed he could not stay on fiis own half of the highway.
His vehicle, officers said, struck a car driven by Donald F. Baker, 56, of Genesee. Mr. Baker's vehicle was estimated to be damaged about $400. The young man failed to stop and identify himself.
The result was that Weiss was arrested and charged with two offenses: failure to stop at the scene of an accident and failure to identify himself.
Before Justice W. C. Klein he entered a plea of guilty to both charges and was committed to the county jail. Later he furnished bail to appear in court. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Metzger Jr.
Presbyterian Wedding
Before an altar decorated with vases of spring flowers, Miss Jane Elizabeth Heimel was united in marriage with Arthur Eugene Metzger, Jr. The vows were solemnized in an afternoon ceremony Sunday in the First United Presbyterian Church, Coudersport.
The Rev. Robert B. Merten officiated at the double-ring rite for the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Heimel of Coudersport and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Metzger of Tobyhanna.
Organist was Randall Halter who played special music selected by the bridal couple.
Escorted to the altar on the arm of her father, the bride wore a floor-length gown of white embroidered batiste fashioned in Victorian styling with a high neckline, long leg-o'-mutton, sleeves, a tiered skirt, and a purple lace cummerbund. She wore a purple satin hair bow trimmed with forget-me-nots and carried a Colonial bouquet of baby's breath, forget-me-nots, and daisies. Her white shoes featured purple laces.
Miss Susan Frederick, a friend of the bride, was the maid of honor and Miss Mary Heimel, a cousin of the bride, was her junior bridesmaid. They wore crepe gowns in a multi-colored floral print featuring stand-up collars, long, cuffed sleeves and sashed Empire waistline. Fastened to their hair bows were pink green, gold and purple streamers, and they carried baskets of pink daisies and purple statice.
For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Heimel chose a toast-color knit dress and coat trimmed in bands of cream with matching accesories, and wore a Gemini rose corsage. Mrs. Metzger wore a pink knit dress with navy accessores and a pink rose corsage.
Best man was Jeffrey Gooch of Coudersport, a cousin of the bridegroom, and ushers were Paul Heimel, the bride's brother, and Jay Gooch, a cousin of the bridegroom, both of Coudersport.
A reception for about 150 guests was held in the church parlors following the ceremony, with women of the church serving as hostesses, after which the newly-weds left for a wedding trip to the Maryland coast.
Pre-nuptial parties included a shower given at the Frederick home by the bride's attendants, and a rehearsal dinner at Sam's Motel.
The bridegroom will be a senior this fall at St. Bonaventure University. Mrs. Metzger, a 1969 graduate of Coudersport Area High School, has studied at the Robert Packer School of Nursing and at the Behrend Campus of Pennsylvania State University.
BPW
Reports of projects completed during the past year were featured at the annual banquet meeting of the Coudersport Business and Professional Women, held at the Old Hickory Tavern Thursday night.
The club sponsored the organization of Friends of the Coudersport Public Library on March 1, which has already been active in expanding library services.
Mrs. Rena Rosenbloom gave a report of a diabetic and glaucoma clinic held May 8 at the Community Building in Coudersport.
The club sponsored this in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Potter County Medical Society. Many county groups and individuals assisted the club in making this a success. There were 701 persons who registered and 470 were tested for glaucoma.
Thirteen persons were found positive in the diabetes screening and 47 were referred to their doctors for treatment and futher study for glaucoma. Members voted to sponsor the clinic again next May.
Miss Marie Green and Mrs. H. N. Schutt gave reports on the Spring District Meeting of the BPW Clubs in District 6, held at Christ Church in Coudersport April 17. The Coudersport club was hostess for this event.
Members of the committee for arrangements for the banquet were Mrs. Stanley Bashline, Mrs. Edith Hancock, Mrs. Eleanor Johnson and Miss Elizabeth Neff. The table was decorated with spring flowers.
The next meeting will be a picnic to be held June 17 at the home of Mrs. H. A. Dorfeld.
