Pearl I. SNYDER, 82, of Genesee, PA, died Tuesday, October 31, 2017 in her home.
Born May 8, 1935, in Westfield, PA, she was the daughter of Ernest and Ruth Williamson Benson. On May 30, 1952, in Harrison Valley, PA, she married William J. “Bill” Snyder, who predeceased her on April 17, 2011.
A graduate of cosmetology school in Olean, she worked as a hairdresser in Wellsville, NY. She was later employed by First Citizens National Bank in Genesee, Citizens & Northern Bank in Elkland and Knoxville, and Commonwealth Bank in Lawrenceville.
Pearl was a 50-year member of the Genesee United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years, and a member of the Gold Church for the last 15 years.
Surviving are:
four children,
- Debbie (Tim) Freeman of Ulysses,
- Sandy (Chuck) Symonds of Elkland,
- Terry (Kim) Snyder of Genesee, and
- Edie Jo (Bernie) Seligman of Genesee;
five grandchildren,
- Chad (Beverly) Freeman,
- Troy (Mary Jane) Freeman,
- Shelle (Ben) Lee,
- Jami Doan, and
- Abby (Ward) Slocum;
13 great-grandchildren;
a brother, Hervey (Diane) Benson of Middlebury Center;
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother,
- William H. Benson;
and three sisters,
- Jean Lese,
- Emma Simmons Whitney, and
- Ruth Giantomasi.

William J. “Bill” SNYDER, 77, of Genesee, PA, died Sunday, April 17, 2011 in his home.
Born December 7, 1933, in North Fork, PA, he was the son of John D. and Gladys M. Steadman Snyder.
On May 30, 1952, in Harrison Valley, PA, he married the former Pearl Benson, who survives.
He was employed by Consolidated Natural Gas for 39 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Gold Baptist Church and served on the Northern Potter School Board in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Surviving besides his wife, Pearl, are:
a son, Terry (Kim) Snyder of Genesee;
three daughters,
- Debbie (Tim) Freeman of Ulysses,
- Edie Jo (Bernie) Seligman of Genesee, and
- Sandy (Chuck) Symonds of Elkland;
five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers,
- Edwin Sndyer and
- Ralph E. Snyder.

ULYSSES, Pa. - Donna McCaslin, 87, of Ulysses died Friday (July 5, 2013) in the Gatehouse Hospice Unit, Williamsport.
Born Dec. 1, 1925, in Raymond, she was a daughter of Preston A. and Minnie Mosch Erway.
She was a 1943 graduate of Lewisville Vocational School in Ulysses. On June 30, 1944, in Tullahoma, Tenn., she married Leroy G. McCaslin, who predeceased her Aug. 19, 2001.
She and her husband owned and operated Ulysses Motors, where she was the bookkeeper and a school bus driver until their retirement in 1989. She was employed as a teachers' aide in the Northern Potter School District for 17 years.
Donna was a member of the Ulysses United Methodist Church, serving as pianist, organist, choir director and lay speaker for more than 50 years. She also was a member of the Tri-Town Volunteer Firemen's Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star 95 in Ulysses, and a charter member of Carl E. Hyde American Legion Post 963 Auxiliary in Ulysses. She was honored as Ulysses Citizen of the Year in 1991.
Civic- and community-minded, she served as mayor of Ulysses for 26 years and as president of the Ulysses Area Improvement Association for many years.
Surviving are six children, Nancy (Gary) Miller of Dover, Linda (Thomas) Wilcox of Corning, N.Y., Sally Carpenter of Rural Hall, N.C., Brenda (Greg) Shank of Carlisle, Jerry (Kathy) McCaslin of Ulysses and Ronda (Robert Delsf) White of Coudersport; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene (Sally) Erway of Selbyville, Del., and Dale E. (Pearl) Erway of Genesee; two sisters, Rita (Robert) Barnett of Columbus, Ohio, and Doris (Dale) Nichols of Elizabethtown; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Dean Shank; and a brother, Preston M. Erway.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Ulysses, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday (July 10, 2013) at 11 a.m. An Eastern Star service will be held 4:15 p.m. Tuesday in the church. The Rev. Robert Anderson and the Rev. Nettie Treat will co-officiate. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Feb 3- The Harrison Valley Firemen were called to the home of Mahlon Hauber Sunday night about 10:00 pm to extinguish a chimney fire. Due to the quick response of the firemen, no serious damage was done.
