(Hiney Brock) Snyder of Roulette, formerly of Coudersport passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2010 at his home in Roulette. Born on September 28, 1949 he was the son of the late Donald L. (Stub) Snyder, Sr and Jean Toles Snyder of Coudersport. On April 10, 1977 in Coudersport he married Shirley Stebbins who survives. Besides his wife he is survived by - a brother, Donald L. Snyder, Jr of Roulette. He is also survived by - his nephew, Donald L. (Kelli) Snyder, III of Roulette and - a niece, Shelby L Snyder of Shinglehouse. - A great nephew, Zackary Snyder and - a great niece, Mia Snyder of Roulette. - A step great nephew, Vincent Langworthy and - a step great niece, Ashli Langworthy and - a step great, great niece Harli J. Heller. He is also survived by his closest friends Joe and Brenda Renko, John and Susan Russell, and Romayne Palmer. He was an avid sports fan and when he was younger he played softball in Coudersport and Port Allegany. He also played basketball, hunted and fished. He loved his family very much and was also an animal lover. Memorial arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be added later. passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2010 at his home in Roulette. The boy in the photo looks a lot like Donald Lee Snyder Jr. (b 24 Dec 1953) when junior was about age 6 or 7. At that time, the family lived next door to me on Ross Street, Coudersport. Don Sr. descends from Lawrence David Snyder (1899-1950) and his father Ford Snyder (1862-1947). Don Sr. married Jean Louise Toles (b 11 Mar 1929). They had two sons, who were my second cousins: Thomas Lawrence “Hiney” Snyder (1949-2010) and Don Jr. Jean was raised by Thomas Leon and Margaret Almira (Thompson) Toles. Her birth parents were Archie Leroy and Fannie May (Thompson) Foster. Fannie died 4 Apr 1929 shortly after Jean was born. (Note: I remember how “Hiney” got his nickname.) When Laurence David Snyder was born on June 28, 1899, in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, his father, Ford, was 37 and his mother, Minnie, was 24. He married Katherine Emaline Davey on December 24, 1919. It may have been a marriage of necessity due to the fact that Katie gave birth to their first child Margarite a couple months later in 1920. Sadly, the child died shortly after she was born. For the first year of their marriage, the 1920 census record shows them each living in the household their parents. It's not known when they found their own home but a year later, on 9 March 1921 their second child was born, Dorothy. By 1930 Laurence, Katie and children were living in an apartment at 804 S. Main Street. He was working as a truck driver for a milling company. A few years later, the family moved to Sweden Valley, it's been said they were living in a house owned by their son-in-law, Richard Herbstritt. Here tragedy was in store for the Snyder family. In December 1936, while their son, Donald, was playing in the kitchen with a 12 gauge shot gun, the gun discharged, hitting his brother, Richard in the chest, killing him almost instantly. It was a dark and dismal Christmas and the year did not end without more heartbreak. Laurence and Katie's daughter, Lucille, became deathly ill and on December 29 she too passed away. Katie was taken to a hospital to recover from her depression and Laurence was incapable of maintaining the household, leaving the task to his oldest daughter, Dorothy. In time Laurence and Katie recovered and were reunited. More problems plagued the Snyder family. Twice, their homes were lost to fire. Laurence died on January 1, 1950, at the age of 50. Snyder Park United Methodist Church, Coudersport, was the setting for the 2:00 p.m. double-ring ceremony on Sunday (April 10, 1977) which united in marriage Shirley Eileen Stebbins and Thomas Lawrence Snyder. The Rev. Donald H.G. Miller officiated for the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Stebbins, Genesee, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald L. Snyder Sr., Coudersport. Mrs. Earl Bliss was organist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a gown of sheer polyester organza over taffeta trimmed with Venetian lace and fashioned with a sheer keyhole bodice, stand-up wedding ring collar, and long, full sleeves with deep snap-close cuffs. A chapel train was attached to the full back of the skirt which featured a lace motif. Her bridal veil was of Venetian lace and organza accented with seed pearls. Miss Betty Jankowski, Coudersport, served as maid of honor in a long, blue, sleeveless gown complemented by a sheer, floral jacket and blue hat. Bridesmaids, Mrs. Roxanne Snyder and Mrs. Vickie Setzer, both of Coudersport, were similarly attired in green gowns but with embroidered jackets and white hats. For her daughter's wedding the bride's mother chose a two-piece orchid suit trimmed with white daisies. The groom's mother selected a dress of floral, mint green. Dennis Pesock, Coudersport, was best man. Ushers were Donald Snyder Jr. and Ronald Setzer, both of Coudersport. Approximately 100 guests attended the reception which was held in the Knights of Columbus Hall in Coudersport. The bride is a graduate of Northern Potter High School and is employed at the Wid-mann Discount Store, Coudersport. Her husband attended Coudersport Area High School and is self-employed. 	Larry Herbstritt 2 hrs FB 20161109 This is a brief biography of my grandfather, Laurence David Snyder, son of Ford and Minnie Dunn Snyder, great grandson of David R & Laura A Chase Snyder, and 2nd great grandson of Solomon & Hannah Stein Snyder. When Laurence David Snyder was born on June 28, 1899, in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, his father, Ford, was 37 and his mother, Minnie, was 24. He married Katherine Emaline Davey on December 24, 1919. It may have been a marriage of necessity due to the fact that Katie gave birth to their first child Margarite a couple months later in 1920. Sadly, the child died shortly after she was born. For the first year of their marriage, the 1920 census record shows them each living in the household their parents. It's not known when they found their own home but a year later, on 9 March 1921 their second child was born, Dorothy. By 1930 Laurence, Katie and children were living in an apartment at 804 S. Main Street. He was working as a truck driver for a milling company. A few years later, the family moved to Sweden Valley, it's been said they were living in a house owned by their son-in-law, Richard Herbstritt. Here tragedy was in store for the Snyder family. In December 1936, while their son, Donald, was playing in the kitchen with a 12 gauge shot gun, the gun discharged, hitting his brother, Richard in the chest, killing him almost instantly. It was a dark and dismal Christmas and the year did not end without more heartbreak. Laurence and Katie's daughter, Lucille, became deathly ill and on December 29 she too passed away. Katie was taken to a hospital to recover from her depression and Laurence was incapable of maintaining the household, leaving the task to his oldest daughter, Dorothy. In time Laurence and Katie recovered and were reunited. More problems plagued the Snyder family. Twice, their homes were lost to fire. Laurence died on January 1, 1950, at the age of 50. 'This photograph of Laurence David Snyder was probably taken next to his parents house a short distance north of route 49 at Seven Bridges, across the road from the Dunn Farm. The house is no longer there but many of his mother's, Minnie, Iris and Sweetwilliam flowers still grow along the road.' 'Laurence would have been 43 years old in the photo. The baby he's holding is his first granddaughter, Sandra L Herbstritt, daughter of his daughter, Dorothy, and Richard Herbstritt.' Jean L Snyder of Roulette, Pa, formerly of Coudersport died August 30, 2010 at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital after a lengthly illness.

Born on March 11, 1929 in Coudersport, she was the daughter of Thomas L and Margaret Thompson Toles who preceded her in death.

On April 20, 1946 she married Donald L (Stub) Snyder, Sr of Coudersport who preceded her in death on March 23, 1999.

She was also preceded in death by
-a brother Frederick Foster and
-a sister June Marie Foster.

She attended Coudersport High School. She was a homemaker who loved her family, dogs, shopping and socializing.

She was a past member of the Coudersport Methodist Church and a past member of the American Legion Auxilliary.

Surviving are
two sons
- Thomas L (Shirley) Snyder and
- Donald L Snyder, Jr of Roulette,
a grandson, Donald L (Kelli) Snyder of Roulette,
a granddaughter Shelby Lynn Snyder of Shinglehouse.
Several great grandchildren
- Zackery and
- Mia Snyder of Roulette.
Two great step-grandchildren
- Vincent Langworthy and
- Ashli Langworthy of Roulette. One step great grand child Harli Heller of Roulette.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held from 1 or 4 pm on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the American Legion in Coudersport.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association or a charity of the donors choice.

Pamela Snyder Wright I think this is Donald Lee Snyder Sr. (b 9 Nov 1920). The boy in the photo looks a lot like Donald Lee Snyder Jr. (b 24 Dec 1953) when junior was about age 6 or 7. At that time, the family lived next door to me on Ross Street, Coudersport.
Don Sr. descends from Lawrence David Snyder (1899-1950) and his father Ford Snyder (1862-1947).
Don Sr. married Jean Louise Toles (b 11 Mar 1929). They had two sons, who were my second cousins: Thomas Lawrence “Hiney” Snyder (1949-2010) and Don Jr. Jean was raised by Thomas Leon and Margaret Almira (Thompson) Toles. Her birth parents were Archie Leroy and Fannie May (Thompson) Foster. Fannie died 4 Apr 1929 shortly after Jean was born.
(Note: I remember how “Hiney” got his nickname.)

Gerry Hamilton you are absolutely right … I figured that it couldn’t be Joe’s brother, Donald W. Snyder, the birth dates didn’t match! Thanks for confirming the history. The three men always had their mail confused at the post office!

Ida Mae Morley, 05 January 1923 - 28 April 1931, daughter of John Wesley & Ellen Odella Baxter Morley, born in Gold, died at the age of 8 in Arora, IL, was your 3rd cousin 1x removed. Her relationship to me is a lot more complicated. I haven't found how she died at such a young age.

Faith United Methodist Church, Sweden Valley, was the setting for the marriage at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (July 27, 1974) of Miss Roxanne Florence Setzer and Donald Lee Snyder Jr.
The Rev. Harold West officiated at the double-ring ceremony for the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Setzer Jr., Coudersport RD2, and the son of Mr. ana Mrs. Donald Snyder, Coudersport RD3. Arrangements of white daisies decorated the church.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore a gown of angel skin peau with crystal pleated neckline, bodice with inset of Nottingham lace edged with a ruffle, wide-cuffed bishop sleeves trimmed with lace and a crystal ruffle, and A-line skirt with double ruffle of crystal pleating. Venise lace edged her chapel-length mantilla. She carried an arrangement of white daisies.
Mrs. Louise Rader, Roulette, sister of the bride, was matron of honor in a full-length, lavender gown with matching hat with streamers. She carried a bouquet of lavender daisies.
The bride's mother selected a pink gown with white accessories and the groom's mother wore a lavender gown with yellow accessories.
Donald Lee Rader, Roulette, served as best man. Ushers were Ronald B. Setzer Jr., brother of the bride, Austin, and Leon Snyder, Smethport, cousin of the groom.
Approximately 125 people attended the reception which was held in the Coudersport Fire Hall.
The bride is a student at Coudersport Area High School. Her husband was graduated from the same high school in 1973 and is employed at Damascus Tanning Company. The newlyweds will live at RD3, Box 38, Coudersport, Pa.
Bridal showers were given by Mrs. Rader and by Mrs. Donald Snyder Sr.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Snyder Park United Methodist Church, Coudersport, was the setting for the 2:00 p.m. double-ring ceremony on Sunday (April 10, 1977) which united in marriage Shirley Eileen Stebbins and Thomas Lawrence Snyder.

The Rev. Donald H.G. Miller officiated for the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Stebbins, Genesee, and the son of Mr.

and Mrs. Donald L. Snyder Sr., Coudersport. Mrs. Earl Bliss was organist.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a gown of sheer polyester organza over taffeta trimmed with Venetian lace and fashioned with a sheer keyhole bodice, stand-up wedding ring collar, and long, full sleeves with deep snap-close cuffs. A chapel train was attached to the full back of the skirt which featured a lace motif. Her bridal veil was of Venetian lace and organza accented with seed pearls. Miss Betty Jankowski, Coudersport, served as maid of honor in a long, blue, sleeveless gown complemented by a sheer, floral jacket and blue hat. Bridesmaids, Mrs.

Roxanne Snyder and Mrs. Vickie Setzer, both of Coudersport, were similarly attired in green gowns but with embroidered jackets and white hats. For her daughter's wedding the bride's mother chose a two-piece orchid suit trimmed with white daisies. The groom's mother selected a dress of floral, mint green. Dennis Pesock, Coudersport, was best man.

Ushers were Donald Snyder Jr. and Ronald Setzer, both of Coudersport. Approximately 100 guests attended the reception which was held in the Knights of Columbus Hall in Coudersport. The bride is a graduate of Northern Potter High School and is employed at the Wid-mann Discount Store, Coudersport. Her husband attended Coudersport Area High School and is self-employed.

They will live at Genesee RD2. A bridal shower was given by the maid of honor at the home of the bridegroom's parents..
