Obituary for Charles H. Hassinger (Aged 74) -
Charles H. Hassinger
Charles A. (Bill) Hassinger, 74, of 464 Center Park, died unexpectedly Friday at his home.
He was born May 5, 1897 in Philadelphia, a son of Charles E. and Margaret Barnhart Hassinger. He married the former Mary E. Brown, June 6, 1934, at Austin.
Mr. Hassinger had been a resident of Coudersport since 1930 and was a retired former foreman of the Pennsylvania Department of Highways Forestry Division.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War I.
Mr. Hassinger was a member of Park United Methodist Church;
Potter Post 192, American Legion; Revovo Lodge 49: F &AM; Williamsport Consistory and a plural member of Coudersport Consistory; Royal Arch Chapter 263; Potter Commandery No. 69; Jaffa Temple, Order of the Shrine in Altoona.
Besides his wife, surviving are
two daughters,
- Mrs. William (Lucille) Stangl, Albrighlsville, and
- Mrs. Garold (Betty) Terrette, Atlanta, Ga.;
seven grandchildren;
- one brother, Gilbert Hassinger, Bellefonte;
two sisters
- Miss Ellen Hassinger, Bellefonte, and
- Mrs. Margaret Shields of Indiana.
Masonic memorial services were held Sunday night at Grabe-Fickinger Funeral Home. A funeral service was held there at 2:00 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Donald H. G. Miller, pastor of Park United Methodist Church, officiating.
- Burial was in Sweden Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were:
- Kenneth Scott,
- Gordon Polo,
- W. Charles Gleason,
- William Hassinger,
- Charles Hassinger and
- Phillip Hassinger.
Military rites were conducted at the graveside by members of Potter Post 192, American Legion. Participating were:

Walter Blow,
Joseph Dubois, colors;
Roy Lamb, guard;
Howard Moore, bugler;
Joseph Milchuck, commander,
Roger Butz,
Henry Bunnell,
Adelbert Osborne,
George Milchuck,
Francis Kellner and
Donald Setzer, firing squad.
The American flag was folded and presented to Mrs. Hassinger by Mr. Blow and Joseph Milchuck.

Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Grover and family spent Christmas with Dr. D. G. Grover, of Elkland.
Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Grover and family were overnight guests Sunday of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. Burtch, of Branchpoint,' Pa.
Dr. and "Mrs. William Mitchell and three children, Tom, Susan and Pat, spent Christmas day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Brocklebank.
William Brocklebank was a guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Brocklebank from Wednesday until Sunday, when he returned to State College.
Mrs. C. A. Hassinger will spend New Year's with her brother, Lemoyne Brown, of Rochester.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Terrette and daughters, Mary Ellen and Kim, of Rochester, were guests Christmas of her parents, Mr. and Mrs, C. A. Hassinger.
Mrs. Charles Ellis, of Henderson, N. C, is a guest for two weeks of her daughter, Mrs. James Elliott and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Castrow, of North Tonawanda, were guests from Wednesday until Monday of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Goodwin.
Fred Hosley will enter the Veterans' Hospital at Bath. N. Y. today for treatment and a check-up. He expects to return home wunin a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilson and family and Jerry Peet, of Wellsville, were Sunday guests of Mrs. Wilson's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph English.
Miss Kristine Fisher and Miss Drusilla Fisher were hostesses at a Christmas party Saturday at their home. A buffet luncheon was served to about 25 guests.
Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Brocklebank of Canandaigua, N. Y., were guests of his brother and wife, Mr. and I Mrs. L. R. Brocklebank, from Thursday until Sunday.
Miss Frances Goodenough, of Little Rock, Ark., left Sunday after spending Christmas here with her mother, Mrs. D. E. Goodenough, and other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Goodwin entertained at a Christmas dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Don Castrow, of North Tonawanda, N. Y., and Mrs. Grace Austin, of Coudersport.
The court house will be closed on Saturday morning following New Year's Day.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gates took, their daughter Nancy to Buffalo Tuesday to consult a doctor.
Larry Lattin is visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Olin Rees, of Prouty, this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Olin Rees visited their daughter and grandson, Mrs. Phyllis Lattin and Larry, Christmas Day.
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Baker spent Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Carl , D. McCloud and family.
John Gamble is home for the holidays from Lehigh University, where he is a sophomore.
Mr. and Mrs. Miles Harris, of Lewisburg, were guests of his father, W. T. Harris, from Thursday until Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mulchay, of Buffalo, and Mrs. M. S. Harvey were Christmas Day guests of Dr. and Mrs. Chester Todd.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rogers, of Plainfield, N. J., are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Rogers over the holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. Steven Gallant and son, Steven, of Sweden Hill, were dinner guests Christmas Day ' of Mr. and Mrs. James LaJoie.
Mrs. Minnie Fessenden visited her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Elry Haskins, of Sweden Valley, over the Christmas holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hartman, of Milton, Pa., and Mrs. Zimmerman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Sto-cum, were Christmas dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Zimmerman and family.

Mr. Clark is an employee of Norman Leet, Coudersport.
