- [S633] personal interview.
29.03.2012- I ran into Jim Hitchcock in the Allegany Town Hall, when I entered the Records Office to inquire about the local historical society. It's run by (Mary) Frances Potter [+1 (716) 372-2918], only open Wednesday afternoons. Husband is Robert Potter, they live at 3123 West 5 Mile Road in Allegany. County records are kept in "Pleasant Valley", near Salamance. Jim asked what I was looking for, so I described the families I am researching in the Allegany area. He mentioned George Hall, who lived on Union Street nearby, 104 years old and still very sharp, even still driving. Contact info in Reference Note. His brother Linwood died a few years ago. His sister Eunice Valley also lives in town, 1839 Willard ST Allegany, NY +1 (716) 372-1489 I called George, he eventually agreed to let me visit, so I drove to his home at 146 East Union ST. He was very nice. I got my computer out to FTM and began interviewing him, entering names, dates, relationships as we talked. George warmed up to me very quickly and he gave information readily. He said right away that we are not related, that his Halls are not my Halls. He never served in the armed forces, enjoyed playing baseball in high school. notes at the time: worked for his uncle for 9 years, carpenter lived in Cleveland for a year, then in Allegany the rest of his life. lived S 7th ST 65 yrs, in this neighborhood almost the entire time. Played baseball has gone to Coudersport once in a while, enjoyed eating at the Potato City Inn! Went to Roulette for Leek dinners, famous baseball player from Roulette, married Kay Star, Don Hoak, 2nd baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates! After I left, I realized I hadn't taken his picture, so I went back. He was glad to see me, I took two shots with my iPhone. He was curious, had never seen a cell phone, he said. A very nice man.
