Mrs. Sally Weidrich, nee Der, of Roulet, died Nov. 20, 1878, age 75-6-20. Born in France, May 1, 1803; mar. Oct. 19, 1820 in Hunshack, France to Jacob Weidrich; lived in France 10 yrs; had 4 children; sailed for America, Mar. 18, 1830; bought a farm in Roulet from the Streeters, July 14, 1830; had 11 children.

In 1830, several families came from Havre (LaHavre), France, to this new world. They were George and Eva (Weiderich) Weimer, Jacob and Sally (Der) Weiderich, Christian and Margaret (Weiderich) Schadenberger and his parents, Balthasard and Elizabeth (Kaufman) Schadenberger, and another Weiderich brother who went to Canada. The captain of the ship on which they sailed took them almost to New Orleans where he intended to sell them as slaves. They were about to throw him overboard when he promised to return them to Philadelphia. There they bought teams of horses and oxen and started for Potter County. After a few days on Ayers Hill with the Joshua Jacksons, the Weimers and Weiderichs came down the Allegheny and found a site where Fishing Creek joined the river. George Weimer was a baker by trade and had baked bread in Napoleon's army. His property extended from the Pomeroy Bridge (Roulette) east to where the Baptist Church is today. They suffered many privations- for their coffee, they dried raspberry leaves and for saleratus (soda) they burned powdered corn. George had five sons (three in the Civil War, Michael, Martin, and John) George W. married Laura Lyman and Otis became a great lumberman and often sailed rafts down the Allegheny.

"These two families (Weimer and Schadenberger), with Jacob Weidrich and family, were the first European immigrants to settle in Potter County." -p. 86: Several more pioneer settlements were made during this period. The beginning of the settlement of German immigrants in Potter County was in Roulet (sic). The first of these were a party from Alsace, which at that time belonged to France, but these people are more properly designated as Germans. The following account of this first colony of European immigrants in Potter County was prepared expressly for (The Potter Pioneer) by Miss Mabel Weimer, herself the granddaughter of George Weimer, one of the original colonists:- "On March 18, 1830, George and Eve (Weidrich) Weimer, Jacob and Sally (Der) Weidrich, and Christian and Margaret (Weidrich) Schadenberger, with Mr. Schadenberger's parents, Balthasard and Elizabeth (Kaufman) Schadenberger, and another Weidrich brother who went to Canada, sailed from Havre, France, because they could not make a living in their native country, and because they did not want their sons to be drafted into the army. "The captain of the ship on which they sailed took them nearly to the Gulf of Mexico, where he inteded selling them as slaves. They found this out and were about to throw him overboard, when he promised to land them at Philadelphia, which he did June 19, 1830, after being on the water ninety days. "After landing at Philadelphia, they came to Jersey Shore to a land agent, who brought them to Potter County. They lived in a barn on the old Joshua Jackson place on Ayres Hill for several days. "George Weimer was born at Inglesby, France, and was married to Margaret Lehman, to whom two children were born. After the death of his first wife, he married Eve Weidrich, to whom 16 children were born, 5 of whom,
