Melissa A. Merrick, 56, of Coudersport, died on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at Buffalo (N.Y.) General Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born on Nov. 8, 1953, in Coudersport she was the daughter of Edwin S. "Stub" and Sally Ann Von Nieda Metzger. On Aug. 4, 1979, in Coudersport, she married John S. Merrick, who survives.
Melissa was a lifelong resident of Coudersport and was a graduate of Coudersport High School. She owned and operated the Credit Bureau for many years and she was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, American Legion Potter Post 192 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Coudersport Golf Club.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her mother, Sally Metzger of Coudersport; her daughter, Taylor Merrick of Coudersport; one brother, Bret Metzger and his wife, Teri, of Coudersport; one sister, Marty Maiuro of Coudersport; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, who died on October 10, 1989; and a brother, George S. "Butch" Metzger, who died on Oct. 31, 1989.
There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at the American Legion Potter Post 192 in Coudersport. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Woodland Cemetery at Five Corners. Memorial contributions in Melissa's memory may be made to Coudersport Sports Boosters, 698 Dwight Street, Coudersport, PA 16915, or to the Coudersport Golf Club, 839 Cherry Springs Road, PO Box 446, Coudersport, PA 16915, or to the Coudersport Public Library, 502 Park Avenue, Coudersport, PA 16915. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fickinger Funeral Home of Coudersport.

Moving To Virginia
Mr. and Mrs. George Metzger
Darlene June Gray and George Stanley Metzger were united in marriage at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (July 31, 1976) in the First Baptist Church of Ulysses.
The Rev. M.H. Vincent performed the double-ring ceremony for the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur L. Gray, Ulysses RD, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin S. Metzger, Coudersport RD.
Organist was Roz Eastman, "' and the soloist, Debbie Morley, who sang "There Is Love." "For All We Know," and "Walk Hand In Hand."
Wearing a gown of sheerganza styled with flared skirt, chapel train and long sheer sleeves, the bride was escorted to the altar by her brother, Robert L. Gray. Venise lace outlined the sleeves, waistline and hem of the gown, and the high stand-up collar and bodice were accented with similar lace and seed pearls, Her five-tier veil of illusion, edged with lace and seed pearls, was attached to a Camelot cap of matching Venise lace. She carried an arrangement of white daisies, pink rosebuds and stephanotis with baby's-breath. Her jewelry was a cultured pearl necklace, a gift from the groom. Mrs. Sandy Dibble, Middleberry Center, sister of the bride, was matron of honor in a gown of pink polyester kint with matching picture hat accented by a long, streaming bow of pink netting at the back. She carried a bouquet of daisies tinted to match her ensemble, stephanotis and baby's-breath.
Identically attired, except in mint, apricot, blue and maize, were the bridesmaids

Mrs. Mary Gray, Hornell, N.Y., sisters-in-law of the bride; and Miss Bonnie Brown, Hornell, N.Y.
Each attendant also wore a cultured pearl necklace, a gift Jrom the bride.
Carrie Halloran, Coudersport, was flower girl in a gown of lavender with white picture hat. She carried a basket of multicolored daisies and baby's-breath. Her gold locket was a gift from the bride. Corey Chilson, Williamsport, was ringbearer.
The bride's mother chose a sleeveless, blue multicolored floral print gown with matching sheer, long-sleeved coat. Her corsage was of pink rosebuds and stephanotis. The groom's mother selected a sleeveless gown of beige with orange and brown print polyester. Her corsage was of orange rosebuds and stephanotis.
Tim Palmatier, Coudersport, served as best man.
Ushers were
Jack Halloran, Bret Metzger, Coudersport, brother of the groom,
John Gray, Hornell, N.Y., and
Wilbur H. Gray, Middleberry Center, brothers of the bride.
Following the ceremony, a buffet dinner was served in the church parlors with the help of the church women. Approximately 100 guests attended.
For traveling on a wedding trip to Virginia and Ocean City, Md. the bride wore an off-white jumpsuit trimmed in navy.
The bride is a 1971 graduate of Northern Potter High School and was graduated in 1973 from St. James Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Hornell, N.Y. She is employed in the ICU-CCU at Cole Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse.
Her husband was graduated from Coudersport Area High School in 1967 and for two years attended Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh. He is now employed by the Department of Environmental Resources. He plans to continue his education this fall at Annandale, Va. where they will make their home.

Jeffrey C. Roberts Patrolman
Jeffrey C. Roberts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Roberts of Coudersport, has been accepted at Mercyhurst College, School of Law Enforcement, in Erie. Roberts will begin his schooling this fall, according to police chief Donald J. Wilson Jr. He will graduate in three years with a bachelor of arts degree in law enforcement.
Officer Roberts has served the Coudersport Police Department since 1974. His plans after school are incomplete at this time, but he hopes to concentrate his career on investigation.
Substitute Teachers
Any certified teacher, who wishes to substitute in Coudersport Schools should call or visit the office in H.S. or elementary school to make appropriate arrangements.
